fitting a 2002 tii brake booster to an E9?

Its been six years, but I'll try to help. As I recall, the tii booster bolts right up to the mount, uses the same vacuum hose connection as the stock booster and accepts the stock brake master cylinder using the same mounting points. The tricky part, as I recall was setting the piston rod to the pedal. If you look in the technical section of the forum, at the techbooks manual - http://e9coupe.com/tech/autobooks/autobooks_manual.pdf - diagram 11.33 shows the measurements.

How did I not know about this book? Thanks for the reference, Chris!

Stick with me Stephen, and you will learn many things. There was a hard copy of this for sale on the forum a few months ago; and I commented at the time on how handy this little book can be.

It also has an excellent list of torque specs in the back.

I've already mentioned this to @mark99, but thought I'd reiterate for the group. At 2002s Only we convert professionally rebuilt ATE T51 brake boosters to be a bolt-on conversion for the E9s. The original connection to the pedal is a straight rod threaded at both ends to allow for pedal height adjustment. Our conversion retains that original configuration and maintains the rigidity of the booster to pedal connection. We have these in stock if you are considering the upgrade. They come with a all the hardware needed to bolt it up, the master cylinder seal ring, an ATE T51 sticker, and a 90-day warranty.
Here are some pics.

I already have a tii boster, and had it rebuilt, halboyles, says the fittings are different from the ATE T51 vs. E9, are the tii the same as the E9?

There are many different period-contemporary ATE T51 brake boosters with the cannister size, dual diaphragm and mount points of the original 2002 ti/tii/turbo boosters. The 2000CS is one example. On the 2002 the connection to the brake pedal mechanism is a yoke and clevis pin connected to a bell crank and then to the pedal as in the attached pic. Whereas on the E9 it is a straight rod that bolts onto the pedal with a yoke and clevis pin.

Hey Mark,
Hal is an expert on this as his company is modifying this boosters at scale. I have my original 3.0 booster and also a tii booster that I will likely use. They are both in a box out in the garage. But as I recall from memory, I will need to modify the rod-to-booster connection to marry the smaller booster to the car. Or, maybe I'll send my tii booster to Hal and have them rebuild and modify it. But it is not a plug and play without modification, I don't think.

What a great service. When you need a booster repaired/rebuilt/remanufactured it is nice to have an enthusiast-focussed site like 2002s Only. Good job Hal!

@autokunst and @bluecoupe30! thank you for your kind words. We have been producing these boosters for the 2002 crowd for several years and finally found a way to make them a bolt-on upgrade for the E9s. Both the coupes and the '02s need them for the same reason: more room for upgrades to the stock intake system. But rebuildable ATE T51 boosters of any configuration have become extremely rare in the last 5 years or so. And the "good used" ones that are out there are often not rebuildable. Our experience is that about 20% are not useable. Despite that, we hope to be able to supply these for a few years to come.

Hello, I recommend to buy from 2002s only it was properly packaged and explanation for every detail even a little clip was pictured and explained where need to go I am not a mechanick and I don't know much about it and I could install the booster pump following his explanation I defiantly will buy again from him anything needed thank you very much it was as he describe and more than I expected and it was worth every penny I paid thank you again

Thank you for your kind words Albert! We work on our own 2002s and the '74 CS and so know what it means to have a "bolt-on" solution that just works. We also strive to create products that will last long enough to be handed down to the next generation of enthusiasts.
