NOTICE, this is not a for sale ad! This is a comprehensive conversion kit put together by Paul Cain that he offered on BaT using all BMW OEM parts, to convert an E9 from an automatic transmission to an overdrive 5 speed transmission. This kit with an easy adaptation can also be used to convert an E3 in the same manner.

The gearbox is a 1981 Getrag 265/6 5 speed synchromesh gearbox taken from a 528i. The ratios on this box are 1st 3.822, 2nd 2.200, 3rd 1.398, 4th 1.00:1 and 5th with 0.813 crank rotations to 1.0 output shaft rotations. The gear box has all new seals including the input and output shafts and the shift selector shaft done by a reputable transmission shop. The kit includes the speedometer drive gear with new “O”ring included.

- 1981 BMW M30 flywheel with machined friction surface + 8 mounting bolts

- 1981 BMW M30 Bellhousing with the later and more serviceable 74 style slave cylinder

- All new construction BMW driveshaft, shortened to fit this 5 speed gearbox into E9 chassis, new serviceable universal joints and BMW Center support bearing. (Paul used Drive Shaft Pros in Garden Grove Calif. but they have 6 locations in So. Cal. and yes they will ship. The engineer that makes the tooling for them is a BMW enthusiast and he has retooled and remanufacture all of the yokes and splines for our vintage BMW's. The driveshaft is made from all new parts and all BMW compatible. Their price to rebuild an original is around $690 including shortening for a 5 spd. A new driveshaft is $525.00. They can make any dimensional changes you want and are super cooperative. Armando runs the front desk in Garden Grove.)

- 1981 Febi throw out bearing

- 1981 E12 528i clutch pressure plate and disc Sachs –OEM brand

- Clutch disc alignment tool

- Converted center console with correct cut out and new OEM style shift boot (black zipper), new black upholstery covering in BMW OEM black vinyl

- 1981 E12 528i shift lever and shift tower, with non OEM support bracket to brace the back edge into the proper position. (this is significant weakness in the original design). Other applications are available such as the Coupe King bracket.

- Si / Bronze bushings for shift lever with threaded clamping feature

- Three port ATE brake fluid reservoir with new brake soft lines

- Steel feed line brake fluid to clutch master cylinder

- New OEM clutch master

- New Bellhousing inspection plate

- New clutch hard and soft lines with mounting OEM bracket

- New pilot bearing

- Edit: Don’t forget the new crank seal and paper gasket behind this housing

- New Output shaft guibo (Edit: Paul used an M5 guibo which is stronger but thinner and uses M12x60 bolts, you may need the thicker original style with M12x70 bolts depending on the length of the out shaft yoke)

- New drive tunnel insulation for shift tower

- New Febi transmission mount, the transmission mount is needed as well but not shown

- E3/E9 brake and clutch pedal set with new pedal pads

- Manual transmission radiator tank side with manual support bracket to convert from to auto to manual trans radiator or just buy a new BMW radiator
