It's not entirely clear to me where they play is situated, between which 2 parts.
So from top to bottom (literally)
- Is the glass rattling inside it's stainless steel casing? Then perhaps the spring behind the glass is rusted or askew (though unlikely, as spring steel is quite rust proof)
- Is the stainless steel flag loosen on the 'pole'? If so, there is a ball joint with a screw that tensions the ball joint. It is behind the glass if I remember well. I tend to think this is screw that you mention
@chope97 ? If so, A washer may help to spread the clamping force over a bigger area, giving more friction in the ball joint interface.
I tried to tighten one of these, and it snapped.
Also, i understand that the ball joint rotates easily: tightening the screw increases friction, but there may be other ways to achieve the same: it may be increased by removing any oil/grease that may be present. I think the ball joint is seperable to clean it? If not, just a rag and clean while rotating the mirror to it's max positions, exposing as much as possible the ball joint surface?
- Is the 'pole' of the flag loose on the inner, non visible die cast foot?
Then there is only one adjustment allen screw at the rear of the chrome part that clamps it to the die cast foot. If tightening that allen screw doesn't help, something in that interface is bend/broken.
Last interface is between the door and the die cast foot. Originally the diecast foot uses 2 screws that go into the funny captive nuts that you can insert from the outside, turn 90 degrees and lock in place for the screw to be fastened. These funny nuts are weak. And the door skin is weak. If you walk into a mirror, good chance that either one is bent. Disassemble, check for deformation, retighten the screws of n the die cast nut if needed.
