flasher unit test

The solid state relay thing or the emergency flasher switch?

its solid state relay under the dash and the flasher switch in the normal place
the 74 its giving me fits.
nothing works. ive had to analyze everything
it connects to the 8 prong flasher switch , which turns off the red button lite when you press it.
its anew hazard switch.
of course no turn signals

Yes, I did go over that circuit for my 72. The things I remember are that flasher has to have the correct load or it will not "oscillate", so if you test on the bench you cannot test with a voltmeter only. There were two version of the lighted switch I think. In any case the switch is important as it transfers the 12V through it for the turn signals when it is not depressed and that had failed in mine. I believe you can test the circuit including the switch with an ohmmeter and you should test the flasher voltages at the flasher relay. No turn signals and no hazard signal? That should be easy. Either 12V, ground, or the flasher itself are candidates.

Not sure if an e9 flasher relay is the same as a in a 2002, but we've been upgrading that component with a $12 electronic flasher found in most every parts store.

Here's the writeup from FAQ. The OEM flasher is something like $200 these days... ridiculousness. I've upgraded my 2002s and it take about 10 minutes to take off the lower dash covers, wire this baby in and presto... perfect functionality.

Let me know if this works for you... I'm curious.

Alan -- do you mean your turn signals also do not work? If so, leave the flasher circuit for now and concentrate on getting the turn signal circuits working first. Left side turn signals are powered off of fuse 1; right side off fuse 2.

In the case of the 2002, the flasher relay is part of the signal circuit. I see no reason the same is not true of the e9 circuit.

$12 flasher... I bet it fixes your problem and it's super easy.

I pulled my diagram (was having trouble reading yours Alan); zinz is right the flasher relay is part of the signal circuit. I believe it causes the blinking, whether of the turn signals or the flashers. If it is not working, the path will be broken.

Replace this:

With this EL-13 electronic flasher and a female relay plug (minus two wires)

Makes a steady, clearly-heard clicking noise with the signals. Dash lights, hazards, everything works.
