Hi guys

My high beam stalk is floppy (I know, that sounds wrong) - it activates high beam but there is a lot of play in it. I could always live with it but wondered if it could be repaired?

Thanks for any advice

Had the same issue with the wiper stalk on my '74. Ended up replacing it with a new one. Anyone with a successful procedure for rescuing either one of these?????????????????????

Mine was floppy from other drivers thinking the left is the turn signal and brut forcing.
One day my daughter drove it and just broke it when signalling a turn...

Advice? Replace it and do not let my daughter drive it.

Thought for sure you had a Viagra joke en route...

I believe that the circuit board comes loose from the housing causing the floppiness. I've seen some people use zip ties to keep the thing together.
The one on my car fails to cancel sometimes so I bought a replacement unit. The housing is crimped in 4 places to hold the board into the housing. But it's an alloy housing, so one corner is actually broken at the crimp, though this is a new part. I plan to put a bit of epoxy there to make sure it is secure.

Had this very same situation. As has been mentioned, it is possible to take apart and re-secure with zip ties. That's what worked for me. Not rocket science. Just kinda fussy getting the column apart and gaining access. The alloy housing kinda disintegrates at one of the crimps. You will see when you take this apart. Once it is in your hands you will see how easily you can make this high beam stalk great again. Good luck!

Same situation here. I bit the bullet and bought the ridiculously-priced new one, but my tech is examining the old one for a potential 3D printing fix.

Don, I would be keen for one if it ever happens, I won't pay the best part of $600 for a new one, as an interim measure I had an auto electrician wire my main beams and spots to the yellow fog light switch, lost the flash function unfortunately though.

Cheers. John

RealOEM.com lists two switches for the turn signals. (realoem prices are not accurate, but are a guide)

01 TURN INDICATOR SWITCH 1 12/1968 10/1973 61311351852 $637.52 ENDED
01 Switch 1 08/1969 10/1973 61311355322 $191.44

61311351852 is NLA and apparently quite pricey when it was available.
I bought 61311355322 from BMW of Monterey last year for $221.08. I haven't installed it, but suspect it will work just fine.
