Fog light switch blowing fuse #2

Hi Friends,

I finally got my E9 running and the brakes all rebuilt. What a journey that was! I am now trying to chase down a minor electrical issue that I am running into. I have a '72 CS and when I turn on the fog light switch, it blows the #2 fuse and cuts power off at the license plate lights and rear side marker lights. I have been studying the wiring diagram for the '72 CS and it looks pretty straightforward. It appears that turning on the headlights powers fuse #2 (Gray wire). There are (2) Gray-Red wires that come off that fuse. One of them powers up the side markers and license plate lights and the other gray-red wire powers up the fog light switch. Looking at the fog light switch, there are (3) gray-red wires that are crimped together at the female connector. If I remove that bundle of gray-red wiring from the fog light switch, the fuse does not blow and side marker/license plate lights work. If I plug that bundle back in and turn on the fog light switch, it pops the fuse. If I remove the wire that goes from the fog light switch to the fog light relay, I still blow a fuse. This leaves me with two more wires to test on the fog light switch - the ground and a green-violet wire. The issue is when I look at the wiring diagram, I do not see any fog light switches on it. All I see are a few notes that say "TO FOG LT". What I don't understand is that the headlight switch powers up fuse #2, and then it appears that the at the fog light switch, the (3) gray-red wires go to the A/T connector (what is that?), another goes back to the headlight switch (not sure why since the headlight switch appears to power up fuse #2), and then the 3rd gray-red wire comes off of fuse #2 to power up the fog light switch.

Anyone know where the green-violet wire from the fog light switch goes to? I suspect that is the issue or the fog light switch may be bad.

Thank you all so much.

Follow the link to the euro lighting schematic there is a fog light switch in it.

Thanks for the diagram link! It appears that this diagram is from a Bavaria. When I see that foglight switch, it looks like it is for the rear foglight. If BMW has been consistent in their wiring, it appears that the green-violet wire goes to the instrument cluster. Must be a light on the cluster when the fog light is turned on?

I'll do some more digging around. Appreciate you sending me this link.

Anyone know where the PDF's of the wiring diagrams are? I forgot where I got mine. Wanted to also look at a '73 CS as well
