Dear all,
I´m still struggling with my imprecise steering.
One step (out of many) is to adjust the famous screw in the hydro steering gear.
According to “Werkstatthandbuch” the maximum torque on steering wheel in straight forward direction is 12cmkp. The steering arm is unfastened.
My steering wheel has 18,5cm radius. According to lever principles this is equivalent to a force of 12cmkp/18,5cm=0,65kg (1kilopond is nowadays 1kilogramm). Applied at steering wheel rim.
Or in US units 1.4 pounds.
This seems quite a lot of.
Do you have any hints for me ?
Thanks and best regards; Willy

I played with that screw in my E24, the steering had too much play. Not a good solution, I ended up installing a new steering box (remanufactured by ZF) and that was a great solution. I heard overtightening the screw can be dangerous also.
