Front Lip Spoiler

when you say 'front lip spoiler' do you mean the valance below the bumper, a CSL air dam, an Alpina air dam / chin spoiler or the 6er style air dam? if you want a CSL style air dam, i would contact Mario at VSR1.com in New Hampshire

I have the VSR Fiberglass CSL Air Dam. Actually have 2 with Xpel on them which extends the life of the air dam to years instead of yearly repairs & repainting & has saved several thousands in repair costs.

I have an extra CSL airdam down here in Los Angeles that I’d like to sell at some point. If you’re ever in the area, you’re welcome to come take a look, or save on shipping.

Hi to everyone. I have a question: besides aesthetics, what’s the function of an air dam? Doesn’t it affect the correct cooling of the engine? Doesn’t it have a bad influence on the general aerodynamics?

no it helps aerodynamics. racing versions go lower to the ground and use a splitter to divert more air up, over and around the car + wheels, rather than going underneath it - to avoid the turbulence + drag under the car (unless you have a flat floor). street versions do similar things. the cooling of the engine is from the grilles to the radiator -

Good thread. My car has a Kooglewerks chin spoiler. Here are a couple of pics for comparison to a full air dam like Andrew's.

I have a chin spoiler from H&B in Berkeley CA and it's an Alpina knock off. Besides aerodynamics and moving air the rectangular holes are positioned to feed air to the front brakes. A very important function for their racing program. I think H&B ceased producing these several years ago.

I had just messaged them this week and, unfortunately, they've discontinued it since they don't have the tooling to make more.

I offered my car for them to make a buck from, but they don't seem to have an appetite to make them again.

If anyone has one of these they'd like to sell, I'd happily buy it.

The M30 cool it's oil only with the oil pan. If the air flow under the car is reduced, the cooling effect of the engine oil will also be reduced.
It will be not as much, but it is so.

while that is true, all of the air that comes thru the grilles goes down. the firewall seals don't let air get up to the hood vents.

And went by the side's of the engine, but doesn't over the rips of the oilpan.
And the air through the grill is preheated by the cooler.

in reality, air also goes under the air dam and hits the bottom of the oil pan. in the CSL air dam, there are holes on either side that do hit either side of the oil pan - if there aren't true brake ducts. on the 6er style air dam, there are slots that hit the oil pan.

An air dam in Florida will catch a million bugs on a road trip. My car is so low that my 1972 NAPA floor jack will not clear the 25 mm ST anti- sway bar. And you can't tell if you're a member of the Yellow Washer Club. The 3 times my car has been on a flatbed tow truck and not using those tow rings would be pretty difficult with an air dam.
