quick question, i need to change my front roundel. the grill is off ... so my question is, what is the best way to get the caps off to remove the badge? i don't want to do any damage ... so i thought it best to ask. btw, i did search first and only came up w/ c-pillar roundel removal

thanks in advance

They are held on by little rubber/plastic sleeves. Time had welded mine onto the roundel posts so I couldn't pull them off the post by hand so I took a metal die punch and by feel found the end of the roundel posts and gently tapped up on one then alternated back and forth with the other and slowly separated the roundel up and away from the body and sleeve which will stay behind against the bottom of the metal. Once they had loosened about half way I could then twist them off by hand. You also may get better access if you take off the passenger grill so you can come in from the side with your left hand and tap up with the right.

Something to consider, when I replaced my front roundel and side grills I used a die to thread the posts which makes periodic removal for things like serious paint buffing much easier. I bought all the grommets for the badges but found that after a repaint I couldn't get them to press in without sanding down the paint which I wanted to avoid. The threading was an easy solution.

they should be pressed into plastic grommets
just put two or three layers of duct tape next to the emblem and
inset a very fine screwdriver and lift gently on all sides.

Front Roundel

quick question, i need to change my front roundel.
FYI, the BMW replacement for the front roundel (51148132375) is all plastic and the 2 prongs are much shorter than the original ones (so can't use the chrome base). On the plus side it has raised letters like the original one.
