Plenty of discussion here, including how to weatherproof the cardboard.
Right, Steve. The general consensus is, weatherproof, oil proof. Most probably disappeared at the dealers years ago during oil changes and repairs.
A truly complete coupe will have one, along with a wiper motor cover.

I rebuilt mine with very thin composite 3\16 board, then seal it with undercoating, both sides. Worked fine. I thought it was called a splash guard ?

Now that motor tray is a fine candidate for a fiberglass reproduction, though I vaguely recall discussion about reproducing it here before. Fiberglass is relatively brittle and though it will flex a little, you'd prefer the tray in a plastic material that would be much more resilient: ABS, polyethylene, or some such. But no coupe I've ever seen (no great number) had one, no surprise given the cr*ptastic nature of the original. What were they (not) thinking?

The fiche shot makes it look like a flat formed bit... how complex a shape is it actually?

Christoph offers them too and a great guy to deal with. Although shipping them will probably be a minor investment.
