Are you as critical of the "fake" sunvisor clips or interior wood pieces being reproduced?

So called “fake parts” are a mechanics name for poor quality parts usually from third world countries. For instance the brake hoses I put on my Audi that failed in only 3 years or the water pump I put on my Chevy tow truck that howled from day one & leaked in less than a year or the Chinese stainless hose clamps that strip out when you tighten them. I could fill a page with stories I’ve heard but believe me, many people in the automotive business in my area are totally disappointed in the crap the parts stores are trying to push now.

As far as the sun visor mounts (I did buy a pair) go I would consider them an aftermarket upgrade part, certainly not a “fake part”. They are brass so I’m sure they will outlast the BMW plastic ones and very likely our coupes too.

The wheels are manufactured at an ISO certified facility and have a limited lifetime warranty noted on their website so I don't think they can be that horrible in quality.

I have seen Chinese wheels sold by reputable American companies so maybe they could be good, who knows. I can tell you that the brake hoses that failed had D.O.T. approved right on the hose so who knows what to believe anymore. I’m certainly not going to use any “fake parts” that might be involved with my car’s safety. ~ John Buchtenkirch

P.S. I feel bad for the guy that paid 3K for Chinese wheels, if it happened to me I’d probably throw up. He didn’t try to hide the “made in China” on the boxes.

Yeah, we all know what these are worth, but don't tell this Ebay vendor from Portland, OR... http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-WHEELS-...pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

Click on his Ebay store and see some creative flex pricing on the same rims, dependant on models.

Now this vendor is a scammer for sure. Part of his description in his E-bay listing is:

THIS IS A SPECIAL CLEARANCE - I AM SELLING MY ULTRA-RARE SET OF 4 ALPINA WHEELS ** One lucky buyer will own the nicest set of vintage BMW wheels around - Do not pass up this once in a lifetime opportunity

TOTALLY PROFESSIONALLY REFURBISHED - PERFECT CONDITION

Can we move on?

ok, so frankroti was a victim of a scam, has openly indicated that they are not Alpinas, and has lowered his price accordingly. I don't see a problem.

ISO I not meaningful

(Start of quote)The wheels are manufactured at an ISO certified facility and have a limited lifetime warranty noted on their website so I don't think they can be that horrible in quality. (End quote)

Many of these international designations such as ISO are more about documented manufacturing consistency and not design quality. Mfg QC is about being able to build to print consistently. Matters not if the design is subpar.

I would put 100x more value in a TUV approval than ISO.

Finally. Chinese factories build what the customers ask for. Blame the people setting the specs not the mfg subcontractor.

Politics: those"job creator" the candidates talk about are actually mostly "job outsources"
As long as they are driven by short term profits and yearly exec bonuses, they'll outsource jobs even it it saves them 25cents. Even if there were zero payroll taxes and healthcare were free, American labor will be more costly than overseas labor. That won't change until our standards of living fall below that of Low cost mfg oriented nations. That's why the Chinese govt. does NOT rely on free market forces to move capital and jobs to china. They specifically and directly force the influx of $$ and jobs by leveraging access to their domestic market place. If you want to ever sell into china you have to move your jobs to China. Since it makes little sense to have duplication of resources and because the US mostly allows unrestricted importation of foreign made goods, Companies move jobs to China. Sucks for us. sorry if this offends anyone, but that is the reality of how big companies and govts work.
