I have about 50 Chrome Vanadium and 50 to 60 later Din tools. I am trying to raise money to pay off my latest $6600 investment of hearing aids that actually are no better than the ones I had. Seems the older you get the more you get taken. I went and bought a set for $6000 knowing that if I was not satisfied could return them. The salesperson told me he would charge me $100 instead of $300 if I returned them within 30 days. I also asked if I could wait a couple of weeks, due to the frustration of all the return visits, and make another appointment to try the in the canal style which were different than the ones I returned. He also told me he would not charge me if I again was not satisfied.
I waited about two weeks and made an appointment. When I got to the office I was told that the the salesman I was working with had quit and I would be working with another sales person. To make a long story short I purchased the in the canal aids and after over 10 visits with the new salesman who could not seem to be able to adjust the aids correctly, I had to return them. Yes return them at a tune of $325. Not sure what the extra $25 was for to upset to ask. Have since visited a professional at Mass General Eye and Hear and waiting to receive the hearing aids.

Just a heads up for anyone needing help.

Your experience is common as rust on an E9. My grandmother was adamant about buying her’s at a nearby shop advertising discounts (and she liked the charming young tech). Same results as yours. After researching, we learned selecting patient-specific aids and then tuning them truly requires an experienced professional. One of my partners walked in my office last month re-telling the identical story about his dad. Shady business IMHO. Good luck.

More shocking is that I met a retired specialist that told me that each hearing aid cost less than $100 to make. This is my fifth set starting at $800 each to a high of $4800 each. None of them worked any better than the lowest price ones.

So sorry to `hear`about the hearing aid problems. Over the past 8 years I've been buying/using hearing aids. Started with just one to see if it was helpful. It was, so I upgraded to a mid price pair. About 3 years ago upgraded to a pair of top level aids (PHONAK brand in all cases).

I have only interacted with PhD audiologists throughout on this. I had good success by studying the Tru Hearing website to get their prices, then I used those to negotiate with the audiologist. Those that were employed by a corp (hospital etc. couldn't 'negotiate', but those in private practice would). Third pair had a sticker price of about $6K, and I paid about 55% of that.

Also these have a full warranty for 2 years against loss and 3 years for performsnce.

Harry, so sorry to hear that, $6600 for hearing aids and be taken! SAD!!!!
Used to sellers advertise the selling price of an item, now days they advertise how much you can save, is that not crazy?
 
Harry, I know they aren't traditional hearing aids but ... an engineer I hired and trained came up with something that some people feel works better than a traditional hearing aid. Search on Bose hearphones. Con's are, size, battery duration (don't last all day), controlled via smartphone app. Pros: an approach to noise rejection that is, IMHO, vastly superior to traditional hearing aids (uses active noise cancellation and active directional steering). And you don't need an audiologist to fit/tune them. Obviously, I'm biased so take this advice with a big grain of salt.
