NM/NA - May be a bargain to somebody, always curious in accidents like this how much damage would have been done with the bumper on?

Agreed Jeff........Ha ha....hence my, "I wonder what a front bumper would have done?" You never know.... hard to say if would have helped any....sad either way!

Ughhh - what a heartbreaker! Every car enthusiast's nightmare.

I'll bet the insurance settlement was painful as well. Between the age of the car ("hmm, the Acme Insurance database assigns a valuation of 37 cents for a 1973 BMW Bavaria") and its lack of a front bumper ("section 48.2, paragraph 10 clearly states that all safety equipment must be in place for our policy to remain in force"), I'll bet the owner didn't collect much.

I disagree - with nothing structural to absorb the impact - just the grille and sheetmetal - a < 20 mph impact would do that kind of damage.
