The steering shaft/ rod is the correct length for the manual box, rare combination to find.

Good deal! I paid just a bit more for mine, had it shipped from Germany, and had no steering shaft included. I thought that was a good deal. :)

I have received an offer of $425, if no more offers are received until Wednesday (March 9) I will sell the box to that offer

This is starting to feel an eBay advert, nothing wrong with that, but slightly odd.
GLWA!

Regards, Alberto

Agreed. This isn’t how we like to operate the classifieds @MortyBMW. You are always free to link to an eBay ad that you listed, but this isn’t an auction site.

Arrive at a fair price and list the part for said price.

You have a power steering box. PS boxes are bigger and made of steel instead of aluminum. They are significantly heavier, not including the hoses, pump, fluid, and resevoir.

The manual steering box (in aluminium housing) is around 6,5kg whereas the power steering box is around 12kg + pump + oil reservoar + hoses. However the saved weight needs some compensation in arm muscles when parking the car/ and town traffic. :)

I was not aware that selling to highest bidder was not tolerated here on this forum. I have sold some few parts mostly as per fixed price. However I also sold a similar manual steering box last year to a fixed price and discovered that this BMW part was quite sought after and several members in the group were interested. So my intention was to offer them a chance to buy this box I sourced from a parts car. I did set the starting price as the same as I sold the other box. But your feedback is noted for the future.

Markos- What did you wind up doing to get a steering shaft & coupler to go with the manual box? I bought the manual box from Keshaw a while back and have been unable to find one, or find someone to fabricate one. Thanks

You could contact @sfdon for practical advise on where and how much to get the shaft lengthened.

On a serious note, I picked up a second e9 shaft with the collapsible section. My plan is to swap the collapsible section out with a longer piece from a newer steering shaft. This way we aren’t welding a solid shaft but an area that is intended to receive a weld.

My stuff is all packed away but here is an example:

Way back machine …..

This conversation seems to have taken a turn. I now know more about Don than I care too. Also, shouldn’t your wife have a say in this?

Although inadvertently, you know know where and how much to lengthen the shaft in case you go manual instead of with Power Steer!
