When did trunk side panels change from having no backing to having a backing? My panels are just elephant skin glued (73 Euro).
to my knowledge, they never changed by BMW. to me there is something very unfinished about the original approach - the belt trim nuts are behind the glued on skin as well as the US side marker wiring and the bumper bolts. this hard panel approach will provide a more 'finished' trunk appearance that is better than the original.
Completely agree on a nicer appearance, I thought maybe backing became standard at some point. How would judges view this?
judges wouldn't like my car anyway - i have a '71 and its ceylon (a '72+ color), i have a euro b34 (going to have megasquirt), i have a 5 speed, a scheel sport interior, non-walnut wood, a '74 telescoping steering column, all the stuff that goes with the euro b34 (newer alternator, starter, P/S pump, sanden compressor) ... and the list goes on.
we can not buy from US what dos it do any good for us
