Are there any mods neccesary to fit the 400 Petri on a eu spec e9 1972

Its all bolt on proper fitting, just the horn wont work apparently because of the contact button, as stated by others in this thread.

is there a way to get the horn issue solved ?

According to Markos,

"You need to use double stick foam tape to secure a horn ring. The lead goes through the 2003 plunger hole. The spline count is the same. You can buy a horn ring for $13 from ECS tuning."
 
Nothing special about ECS tuning, I just like the photos versus the line drawings that you see on the dealers sites. You will want to use the factory steel turn signal cancellation tab that is on your steering column when you remove the factory wheel. If you buy a ring with the plastic cancellation, I would snip it off.

I actually really like this Porsche slip ring, but it's $30 (go figure).

The $11 one would require snipping some plastic off with a dremel or utility knife.

This Porsche slip ring is actually standard MOMO slip ring.
