I have been offering these at no charge on 02FAQ for a while and just discovered yesterday that the E9 use the same setup. That is, the fuel sender outlet tube is 6mm while the steel fuel line that runs to the engine bay is 8mm. BMW used a nylon sleeve to make up the difference between the two and that sleeve is often cracked or just missing entirely which leads to gas fumes in the trunk and cabin. So if you would like to replace yours or just want a spare in case, PM me your mailing address and I'll get one out to you gratis.
Here are the instructions I worked up for the '02s but the parts are the same. I've also attached a pic of what often happens when the fuel hose is removed from the sender. The adapter sleeve gets stuck inside and is discarded along with the old hose.
So, quit spewing fumes out of your rear end! Sleeve yourself!

Someone suggested an adapter so I bought a 6mm to 8mm male male adapter in brass from a plumbing supply place ( Amazon in my case). It does add two more clamps to the setup. I would have preferred yours.
