Does anybody know anybody at GAHH? I am trying to order coupe carpet in square weave and want them to rotate the carpet 90 degrees so the linear pattern is going across the car and they will only do it lengthwise. I need to talk to someone and the customer service people aren’t helpful
 
I never knew it would look different. GAHH did my 230SL years ago in Oatmeal SQ and it looked amazing. Everyone uses the same European suppliers, why not ask Newark Auto.
 
square weave is linear (in one direction). if it runs parallel to the car, then as you roll it down the tranny tunnel or along the panels under the doors, the linear pattern will 'separate' a little and show a gap. under the console, the alignment between the console and the linear pattern can look a bit distracting. when the pattern runs perpendicular to the length of the car (as in OCCoupe's previous car), every piece looks amazing because the pattern holds together. in addition, i have scheel fabric, which runs perpendicular to the car as well.

Got mine from KHM… it is the correct orientation.

But I can understand not wanting to get overseas right now… and they are tough to deal with.
 
i am checking with Newark and KHM. i think that GAHH does the best work, but if they won't do it the way that i want ... then i won't buy it from them. period, end of statement.
 
Can you just get the material by the yard and have a local person sew the edging on? If you have the old pieces, you’ve got perfect templates.
 
Jeez—I just ordered the German square-weave carpet from GAHH and specifically requested that the rows run front to back. I had saved a bunch of photos on Pinterest of square-weave installations in Porsches and Mercedes, and the orientation seemed to be about a 50/50 split.

Ultimately, I chose the front-to-back orientation based on this photo from the forum. It never occurred to me that the rows might separate some when the carpet bends around a curved surface, although that effect certainly isn’t obvious in this picture.

because this car has a center armrest it hides a lot of the issue. on the far side of the car under the door, you see a little of it albeit a little fuzzy. my biggest complaint is when you look at the transition of the tunnel to the floor you see misalignment. i know its not horrible, but its a detail that can be avoided by running it the other direction. as a designer, its those little details that really matter. i will also say that i think GAHH makes carpet fit better than most anybody else in kit form. the carpet in Occoupe's car was custom done and it looks perfect as it should be by a great custom installer. but what i love about occoupe's is that the layout of the material avoids misalignment.
 
FWIW, if you’re ordering from GAHH, be sure to ask for samples first. I had samples from several other sources identified as 316 Dark Grey, 317 Charcoal, etc., while GAHH uses its own color codes, such as MB-11 and MB-12.

GAHH told me that all German square-weave carpet comes from the same mill and that its MB-12 was the same as the 317 Charcoal samples I already had. Unfortunately, when the carpet arrived, I discovered that it was not the same. The difference is subtle, but it is definitely noticeable.
 
already did, i got 3 samples - mb-1b jet black, mb-1 black + mb-12 charcoal. the mb-1 black is a dark charcoal, which is what i want. i also have colors of the 2 color loop, that varies greatly between carpet suppliers. KHM has the best color, GAHH's charcoal in the loop is a green / gray. when compared to the square weave, the mb-1 black is much richer. most carpet varies due to dye lot. i have 2 samples of the mb-1 from GAHH - one 6 or 7 years old and one new - the colors are slightly different ... but close enough. i have samples from world upholstery and KHM - they are all slightly different

That’s @Drew Gregg carpet/coupe. Cocomats will cover most of the footwell but obviously the tunnel will be visible.
 
it might not bother you like it will bother me. i design luxury 5 star hotels ... and little tiny things that most people will ever notice set me off. i recognized the car so i knew who's it was. look, the carpet looks better than most ... a lot better. its much better than the KHM loop carpet i had. i am only speaking for me, what i see will probably never enter your mind. i probably need to spend the money and go custom ... i just don't know who to go to to do it right.
 
Wait, is it just the tunnel they won’t switch the orientation? Could you just have that piece made separately by buying extra material?
I completely understand the annoyance that only your eye will pick up. I do custom furniture and interior woodwork and EVERYTHING bothers me in everyone’s home..lol. So many ‘experts’ just do it wrong…so frustrating.. and I’m cripplingly ADHD so I fixate on details.
 
no Stephen, i want all of the carpet's linear patterns to run cross-car, not linear with the car. so its a lot more than a couple of pieces.
right there with you on little things bothering me. i see woodwork in houses that drives me crazy. i have to let things go on my house from contractors that just don't know / want to do what i want them to do.

Ahhh, I see..yeah, I’ll eventually be remaking all my carpets for my e3 myself..but I still have the originals to templet. Very frustrating that they lost yours..
