It looks like my fuel filter seal might not have been installed improperly. Anybody confirm this?
It's stiff now, and cracks easily.

That doesn't look too bad. I would try a liberal application of vaseline and see if you can rejuvinate the rubber.

they do get hard + brittle as they are nearing 50 years old. you can buy a new one from w+n, its a very good repop ... just has their logo on it. i may have an original spare.

The boot has a groove on the outer edge that fits over the lip of the body. I can see from your pic that it's not seated correctly. I have several uncracked boots. Warning total bitch of a job to replace. I have made a special tool to make it easier.
