Hello!
Doing some tidy up on my E9 in time for spring just around the corner. A few electrical niggle resolved now to the gear lever…
My gear shift rotates in the gearbox and doesn’t seem to tighten, not even slightly. I thought I had a stripped thread on the shift knob - but definitely not that.
Any tips or suggestions (other than pulling the box) would be appreciated.

I believe there is a rubber bushing that needs to be replaced, I have to do that on my E3. Discussion here. https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/is-shift-lever-supposed-to-spin.17537/

Thank you, Sean,
Unfortunately the diagram image is now missing from the thread and so while I understand what to do, I’m some what blind on how to do it. (At least the image is not visible on my iPad)
I’ll do a bit of a search in the Forum, but if someone has quick access to that’d be helpful and welcome.
Thanks!

There is a rubber insert in your shifter that isolates vibrations.
Remove your shifter, remove the snap ring and your shifter will come apart

Thank you. I found a related post on shifter removal which seems a job for up on the hoist and a few replacement rubber to be ordered. Thanks for the speedy response!,

They loosen over time as your hand slightly applies twist pressure on each shift. I went to an all wood schaltknauf for this reason as the logo rotating was too much for my ocd
Too funny. Is suspect we suffer from the same compulsions!!
