But you have to take the whole E28 parts car to get the gearbox. BMW went back to the getrag 265 for the 85 model year for E23/E24 & E28. There is a plug in the back of the gearbox for the speedo gears go since all M30 cars in 85 had an electronic speedo.

I'm sure there are forum members who have been there, done that who could tell you more in regards to installing the speedo gears in the gearbox.

You could part out the remainder of the car to get some of your money back.

Depends on what condition the motor is in. It's a M30B34 so if it blew a head gasket, that's not a hard fix. Problem is, the car has been sitting for a few months, so possibly that any water that is in the combustion chamber could have seeped down into the cylinders and rusted the pistons to the cylinder wall. No telling what's wrong with it until you take a look. Seller says the engine just blew up, that could mean a lot of things but I get the feeling, the seller really doesn't know what's wrong with it but just wants the car gone. You could sell any parts you have left over on the E28 board, mye28.com Be advised there's not much of a market for 25 year old E28 parts. You could turn the shell into a 24 hour of Lemons car! Getrag 265 gearboxes are getting a lot harder to find these days, 85 are the newest ones around and that's a 26 year old gearbox. You don't see E12's in the pik-a-part yards anymore. They have all gone to the crusher and they used to be the best source of getrag 265 gearboxes for upgrading from a slushbox or 4 speed.

I really don't like ads like that- free ad, not paying by the word and somehow just can't remember to put in the mileage. A 5 speed with 289,000 miles on it and no maintenance is worth about negative 400 bucks because of the time you will waste.
