BTW, I asked the seller what type of gearbox is in the E23, reply back was a 5 speed. That would make it a Getrag 265 5 speed gearbox. That's the perfect gearbox for your E9 conversion from an auto or 4 speed to a 5 speed.

are you going to attach the 5speed to the turbo itself (now thats a conversion I´d like to see )

Otherwise, how would going from auto to manual in any way change the engine characteristic and eliminate the turbo lag?

Unless of course you plan to go to manual so you can set of in first gear, slipping the clutch at 3000rpm all the time (I´ve got some clutch plates to sell you... )
