Getrag 5 speed exhaust bracket?

What is the solution to getting the center exhaust support installed for 5 speed conversion? I have a bracket that is supposed to work but no go.
 
It's a complex procedure...
After you clean it thoughly you need to mount it in a vise and using a large (like 8lb) maul,
crush it and then walk it to the scrap bin.
It doesn't fit.....

Here is what I did. Weld on a tab to the side of the exhaust so it overlaps the bracket's two bolt holes. Use the four rubber bushings as isolators between the bracket & welded tab. It will be obvious how the rubber bushings fit on both sides of the brackets large holes. There are two 8mm threaded holes at the rear of the transmission to attach the bracket to. Sorry the pictures are not that great, but hopefully you get the idea.

Thanks for this and when I get a new muffler installed I will do this, I made a temporary bracket today so I could take it out on the road, I cut the original top bracket and made a bracket to fit on the tranny rubber mount bolt:
