Hi folks,
I have recently found out that my spare gearbox I sourced a while ago for my m535i is not an e28 box. The box has the mechanical speedo drive on it. As such, I believe this is suitable for an e9.

The box is a 5 speed Getrag dogleg.

If anyone is interested, please message me for more info.

Thanks - Jon

My guess is that it will cost $5000, there exchanging hands in england for £2500-3500. Not cheap but its the speedo drive that makes them soo expensive.

Seems to me sending the speedo to a repair specialist for conversion to electric might open up some gearbox options.

Doubt the conversion idea. Number 1 you will need a newer diff as the speed sensor for the electric speedo picks up it’s signal from the differential.

Classic and historic rallycar owners/drivers are buying them regardless off cost due to the detatchable bellhousing and you can put at least 350 bhp through them without breaking a sweat.
but with that box having the speedo drive, its the only box to go in a cs so without changing a hell of a lot of bits and pieces.

Typical conversion is magnet on driveshaft to pickup mounted in tunnel

i use this method to drive my TSD rally computer, first you have to figure out where it is easiest to mount the sensor. the sensor generally has to be about 3/8" (1cm) or less from the face of the magnet. on my 911, i put 2 magnets on the front wheels and mount the sensor on a bracket attached to the brake disk shield. trickiest part is knowing what the right sensor / cable is and where / how to connect it to the speedo / odo. as i remember from my e30 m3, there was a pulse sensor on the diff which sent the pulse to an electrical drive to rotate the speedo / odo. so it is relatively easy as long as you know what parts to use.

Huh?? $5k for a CR 265?? A friend just sold one at Vintage at the Vinyard for $900 I think with bellhousing. I would think there would be more available in UK than here as they were never sold here....

ps, have some 5sp 265 OD's if anyone is interested...

Yes, for dogleg 5 speed boxs. Do your od boxs have the speedo drive?

Do you still have that 265 OD tranny? IF so send me the price and pictures via a private message.
