I reinstalled my glove compartment. There was a spring left over. Can someone please tell me where it connects.

Thanks

Is this spring even part of the glove compartment??

I had it in a bag with all the rest of the hardware for glove compartment.

It's the right shape and if it will stretch 6" or so, it would attach to the right side arm and to the body to close the door.

On the E3 at least two of those springs are used in the lowering hinges.
Basically they assist in closing the lid by offsetting the weight of the lid against gravity to a degree.

and...
there are holes in both the right and left 'arm' of the glovebox, so are there meant to be springs on both arms or just the right side?

+1....mine are missing as well.....I assume if someone tells us how long it is then it should not be so hard to find at a hardware store.

They are probably missing because they tend to break and often fly off into the abyss where small E9 parts always go. Without at least one spring, the glove box flops down rather abruptly. I'm not sure that my one remaining spring is even original and I probably just got a reasonable match at the local hardware store.

:-)
I had this spring laying around in one of the spare part boxes from PO for years. Had no idea what to do with it, until today!!

I added some measurement for you before I install it.

Spring wire is 1.2mm thick and the hooks are open 3mm.

Spring force was "scientific" measured by hanging a weight of 2kg and the length was expanded from 63 to 90mm.

Cheers folks!
