Golde Sunroof Deflector

Chris, Check the factory parts book... I was surprised to see them there...

In the factory parts books or on Mobile Tradition sites they show the large Plastic wind deflector...

Those of you who don't have the pop up deflector may notice that at certain speeds there's an annoying pressure "pulse" that occurs. The biggest advantage of the pop up deflector is that this doesn't happen, although a little extra wind noise is the result. To my mind, having the pop up deflector is well worth it.

I never had one of the plexiglas exterior deflectors.

Jeff, you're right again, it's there. All right, I will say there was never a factory rear window blind, am I wrong again? Saw those on Volvos though!

Thanks for all of the comments and the confirmation that it was an option on our coupes.

I definitely agree with the 'noise maker' comments. The first time I opened the roof on the freeway, I couldn't believe how noisy it was. Still, it's pretty cool.

upgrade?

I looked into this last year when I bought jabberjaw because the sunroof got stuck and the deflectors were broken (at the hinge). I haven't been able to find a used set yet. Then I saw that someone on pelican parts started thread about upgrading to a carrera single piece black deflector and it said it worked much better and sat at more of an angle that the near verticle 3 piece original for a 911sc or our coupes. I'm hopin Terry can pull off this upgrade on jabberjaw as well as a few other updates to the interior. I'll have him post if he can figure it out. The left and center sections of the upper deflector are available new (expensive) but the right is long time NLA.

I have both the metal pop up and the plastic wind deflectors. If you think the metal pop up is rare, try to find the white plastic guides!

And I believe the smoked plastic deflector was a BMW option; its shown in the orange parts books and has a roundel stamped on it.

LenS, if anyone would have both it would be you. And if anyone can find the white plastic guides, again, it is you. Why am I not surprised. Steve

Formica or bicycle inner tube rubber, in my case, work as suitable substitutes in a pinch when the original glue fails and a guide flies off at 80. True story.

Don't fret- those that must have, DeQuincey will have a step by step documentation of homemade version on page 5 of this thread. Stay tuned.......

Steve,

Didn't you gift wrap a small, oval head screw for me?

I'll find them if they're to be found, along with that damn wiper motor cover!

Len, right you are. Of course you know the wiper motor covers are the same for our coupes and Bavarias. That should make the hunt a tiny bit easier. Mine came from Australia. Perhaps there are more down under. Planning a trip?

Steve
