I’ve undertaken a Wilwood front brake project on my e-type.

The custom caliper brackets are the first thing that requires some work and I had to find a CNC shop to make them. Many shops wanted a lot and lead times were crazy but through some vintage race buddies I found a great CNC shop owned by
Andrew Sessbruegger • [email protected] at www.intellectioncnc.com

Andrew is the chief prototypist/programmer and machinist at a autonomous driving company and he just recently started IMW as a side gig with a Haas 5-axis machine. He was a pleasure to work with and very reasonable. He handled both the machine work and getting the parts anodized.

If you need anything made, I can recommend him and his work.

Looks great. What’s the process like and what level input does he require for a part, i.e., concept and dims, paper scribble, 3D machine file…?

I gave him a PDF with detailed dimensions and he had to make the machine file from that.

He's a prototype specialist and programmer so I'm sure he can create the prototype of a part if required. Super nice so just email him.

I was so spoiled when I worked at an auto plant and could just go downstairs to the machine shop. I have the utmost respect for machinists as they are some of the most talented people I know.
They told a story about one of the engineers that had a couple dims switched. He was one that thought he knew it all. When he went to pick up his part, he got a box of metal shavings.

I will confirm a huge thumbs up for Andrew. One of the ports from the Tesla A/C compressor was facing in a direction that just wouldn't work for me on the silver CSE so I drew up an adapter in CAD and sent the STEP file to Andrew. Tolerances are important as this is part of the sealed A/C system. He is super easy to work with. He suggested one small change to the design to make it more machinable and then gave me a very reasonable price quote and one week lead time, which is a month or two less than any of my local resources. He then machined the part on his 5-axis mill and mailed it to me without collecting a cent from me first. It's very hard to find a machinist willing to do small runs in short time. All in all, I couldn't be happier.

Wilwood does not sell a ready to 'bolt on' kit?
Please let me know how it works on your 'etype', as we share the same flavour :)
Regards, Alberto

Hi Alberto-

They do. It's terrible and 1200 bucks. You can make the brackets for 200(ish-anodizing is additional) and get the calipers for 250(ish). The brackets are much nicer, lighter and way cheaper. Calipers are the same as the kit.

Brake Caliper, Dynalite, 4 Piston, Aluminum, Gray Anodized, 13.060 in OD x 0.380 in Thick Rotor, 5.250 in Lug Mount, Each https://a.co/d/2ucDU2T

Thank you, it's a pure driver with lots of external "patina" but fully rebuilt under the skin. DM me and I'll shoot you my number and we can connect.

Beautiful S1! I had a 65 coupe for a few years. They are wonderful cars and reliable once fettled. What year is yours? 63-64?
