Grey/Red 74 on BaT

anthracite is a nice color. my dad's 733i was that color. not a lot of coupes in that color. nice driver quality, but i think there is some rust lurking around this car

not a fan of the trunk, carpet running over the interior rear panel? no side wheel arch covers.
pic 49 - is that a kink in the inner fender? mild crash perhaps
pic 55 - some crustiness at the bottom of the A pillar ... the drain plugs on both sides look a bit crusty

Curious to see where this will go. Seems like it has potential.

Probably the cleanest looking diving boards ever thanks to the Anthracite paint. Some post-paint items missing. Seats look pretty nice.

You guys are good. -Enjoy the amateur rust detective game on the BAT listings, but didn't see the A pillar perforations right away.

Rust mentioned in listing shows in picture 55 that rsporsche notes, as well as No. 54. Rust never sleeps. Seller would do well to pull the lower rocker trim cladding, but that's not usually on offer.

- Kept looking for rear of wheel-well shots. Well, there aren't any. Still a handsome car on the outside.

There seems to be a lot of “that’s what the previous consigner told me” on this one and I don’t understand the “there is rust in the wheel wells and you can sorta see it in one of the photos.” How about photos of the rust? And after all of that, I’m surprised at the current $50k bid.

All of that said, I do really like the color combo.

Yeah, lots of unanswered questions. That's why I asked about engine serial numbers, suspension details and photos actually showing the rust. I'm also surprised at that early $50k bid considering the paucity of photos.

It is a really good color combination though. I get the bid based on that impression alone. Perhaps a good example of BaT bidders being more swayed by initial presentation than actual condition of the vehicle.

I like antracite and all e9 colors, the but this color just screams 80’s BMW sedan to me. Can you even find an e23 that isn’t a similar color?

not going to see me bid on that coupe. bidding on HB Chris' coupe is a safe bet, this is a totally different story. right there with everybody on liking the anthracite, but i don't love the red with it. overall, something about this one scares me.

Basically all cars built after 2000 are black, white, silver, and anthracite.
And the reason I that my 911 (06 997) is RED - Carmona Red FWIW. I was NOT going to get a (guards) red, white or silver 911. So, when I found that one... I grabbed it.
I would have been ok with blue or other interesting color... but real glad I found the car I did.

My M Coupe, E39 M5 and E39 touring are all very rare Titansilber with black leather. I have a lot of silver cars so it's not the end of the world I guess.

I would advise extreme caution with this car. I was interested in it when it was previously for sale at a dealer in Salt Lake City at round about the current bid perhaps 3-4 years ago. I never saw it but had it inspected by a reputable local BMW shop, don't think they gave me a written report, their advice was to walk away: their main conclusion was that a lot of the recent and semi-recent cosmetic and mechanical work was substandard.

I recall their main concern was a significant amount of bondo, which had cracked in several places - see bodyshop invoice on BaT that refers to 'cracks in paint'. At the time it was for sale in SLC there was a bodyshop invoice with the car for accident damage repair, it listed a fair amount of work, though I'm afraid I can't remember exactly which area had been repaired. Not a good bet for anyone looking for an honest car - looks presentable in photos but I'm sure a thorough inspection would reveal otherwise.

If this is a 1974 model- where are the plastic plugs in the fenders?

We need HBChris to look at this!

the VIN screams '74 as it is 4310028 ,,, so its a very early '74. the question is what has been redone and how bad was its crash(s). after seeing what i see in the pics, @HB Chris has it right, that would be my biggest concern. i hear Sgt. Schultz in the background ... ' i see nothing, i hear nothing ... '

Yes, and it annoys me to no end. My wife's Honda CR-V is basically anthracite like every third car on the road and I've owned too many white cars in my life, VW Beetle & Bus, Pinto wagon, Volvo 940 wagon and my Chamonix 2800CS. I don't have a preference for white, it's just the color that turns up on the best option at the time to purchase the next ride.
I much prefer color with some punch.

But the 2800CS will be repainted Chamonix to retain its original color. I keep telling myself it's ok because it's not really white....
