GRILL BADGE - 2nd Run Interest Thread - Semi-official

We're at roughly 20 so far. I looking good! The first time around we had about interest in about 50-60 and we sold twice that. I'll give this about a week for an initial count and probably order 1.5x or 2x. Actually I only got one which lives on my coupe, now I need one for my desk. They do make a nice paper weight. :-D

It's been about 6 months since I spoke to the vendor but he was still eager to do more. As this process comes to order time I will post detailed instructions. We'll try to make it as easy as possible for me and everyone.

Any idea as to timeframe?

Well, the first step was to determine how many to order. I think we are at 25 which is about the minimum. On the first run the vendor took about 3-4 weeks from the order to have pieces in my hands. Depending on my travel schedule it would be about 1-2 weeks to get them in the hands of people who order. If we let this thread run a few more days I would say we're talking mid to late October?

Judging from the response, I will probably order about 25 white and 25 inka at a minimum and I may even go up to 100 pieces total. I am sure that E9ers will crawl out of the woodwork like last time and run the count up; we have a fair number of board members who only check in once a month or so and they miss things like this. I guess if I have left overs I can hawk them for big $$ at shows. I may also pick a third surprise color if the setup charges aren't too bad; I have an older quote of about $30 for each extra color scheme. At 50 pieces the old price was around $25 and at 100 pieces it was down to about $19. Domestic shipping was about $2.50 and international was about $5.5 (with packing). This time I plan to fix the shipping around $4 so our friends around the world get a fair shake. I have just sent in a formal quote request to the badge vendor. I expect to hear back on Tuesday about prices and I will let everyone know.

Now, the question is, what limited edition "special" color would be extra cool! I am thinking about Golf to honor Gunter's recently restored CSL? Frankly, I like the white and I also think that Inka looks good on the proofs. Polaris would probably blend too much with the chrome. Turkis might be hard to get right. Blue and Black would also blend. It's so hard to decide!

A final problem I will have to deal with is that I expect if I order 25 inkas I will get orders for 28. I will do my best to honor color requests but I may have to implement some form of first come, first serve on color choice. For E9ers who actually own Inka cars I think it would be only fair to give first dibs. I guess I am already asking for everyone's understanding before it becomes an issue. Orangener, you don't need to worry, you and the boys in Vienna are always at the top of the list!

I am thinking we might also want to donate one to the BMW museum and I think their is some type of foundation collecting BMW memorabilia. Another thing might be to hand a few out to people in the community that we all really appreciate like CoupeKing, Carl Nelson, etc. I am open to suggestions like this if anyone has them.

Thanks John! And Golf would be great !

Bump. My best estimate so far is 25 requests. I think I will order 40 white, 25 inka, and 10 golf (these will be highly collectible and 1 is for me and at least 2 will be going to Vienna). This will put the total cost at $25 (including shipping, but no mount kits).

I will give this thread another day or two and then place an order with the vendor for about 2.5x the number of request. Once the order is placed and I have a shipping schedule I will post formal ordering instructions. Everyone who has put in a request so far will get priority for at least a few weeks after ordering details are posted.

The mounting hardware from the vendor is not suitable and it cost $1 per set so I will not include it in the order. I found that some stainless screws and lock-thread stainless nuts an washers work well. On mine, I cut a 3-4" piece 1.2" of aluminum L-bar and drilled holes to match the badge. The L-bar grabs nicely onto the back side of a grill vane and spreads the load (these things are heavy - I think about 13oz). Perhaps someone here can post some mounting instructions / photos - then again, if you can keep a coupe rolling you probably can sort this out on your own....

I'd go for a non-white (have a white one, thanks Murray). After reviewing mine, you are right; blue, black, and silver will not work great. Thanks, John. Dave V. in NC

I'll go for an Inka one--hhhmmm 13 ounces--wow that's a bunch--I'll wear it on the opposite grill to keep the BLUMAX in trim.

BTW JJ--many thanks for your dedication and positive contributions to this community.

JJ-

Count me in for a white one. I should really come pick it up in person seeing that I'm only 30 min. away.

Thanks for your effort.
Stefan

I'm good for an 'inka'.

As Murray said, it will balance out the front end. I have notice the coupe pulls a little to the side since mounting the first run.

FWIW: maybe the 'mystery' color could be like the "Calder Art Car".......;-)

Order - one white, one inka

13 oz - good think my battery was moved to the trunk.

I like the idea of pricing in the ability to have some to give to the select few you mentioned. I also support the idea of making a level price for US and international - one of the great things about this board is the broad representation - I would be curious as to how many members are non-US - at least 30% I would wager.

Again thanks John for your efforts - let me know the payment method of preference.

Many thanks for your effort, John !
(Ich soll dir von Günter ausrichten, er lässt sich sehr herzlich bei dir bedanken und ist schon ganz ungeduldig !) :-D

I'll do a white (preferred) or orange, whatever you may have left....

I think white would be the best color for my Fjord coupe, do you think?

Definately mark me down for one.
