Oh dear, what have I gotten myself into ... again?

The time has come. More grill badges have been ordered from the vendor and I expect to have them in my hands the week of October 4. Once they arrive I will package and ship them out as quickly as I can to those who have ordered and paid. At this time there are officially requests for 51 badges in the "interest" thread, PMs, and email. I have ordered 100 pieces: 55 White, 35 Inka, and 10 Golf. Those who have stated a color choice as of today will be guaranteed what they asked for.

First, I must apologize in advance for a few things and thank everyone for their understanding:

1. I am frequently travelling so it is possible there could be a delay in shipping the badges if I am not at home when they arrive. I promise to do it as promptly as I can.

2. Despite some interest in various colors I decided to go with the three colors I selected. I was afraid silver would not show up well with the chrome outline. I did work on a blue car scheme but I just couldn't make it look good. There are some other colors that would have been interesting - perhaps a future run.

3. I will have a finite number of badges and a finite number of each color. It is also possible that some of the 100 pieces will be defective; last time there was only one with a bubble in the cloisonnes. So, those who have spoken up will get what they ask for if they officially order by the shipping date. The rest will be sold first come, first serve. If I run out of your desired color I will still reserve a badge and let you know what, if any, color choice is available.

As I receive orders I will try to confirm them promptly. Again, please remember I am spending far too much times in planes, trains, and automobiles so I may be out of touch for multi-day periods; I promise do my best. The badges will all be shipped by US Mail as fast as I can get them packaged and labelled.

To order a badge please send an email to me at jhjacobs(AT)ix.netcom.com with the following information:

1. Subject: E9-DRIVEN GRILL BADGE ORDER (this will make it easier for me)
2. Your name
3. Your board name (this is needed to confirm those who stated a preference - I know many real names but not all)
4. Your shipping address (I will use exactly what you type with appropriate country information)
5. How many badges you want and color preference(s). If you are flexible in your color choice it would be helpful for me to know this too.
6. How & when you plan to pay

I will respond to each and every email with a confirmation. If you don't get a confirmation within 72 hours you might send a PM follow up; SPAM filters are alive and well and I have no idea what makes them eat mail. Email is preferred but if for some reason you don't have email access you may PM this information. Thanks to DANG my PM box is bigger now.

On the last run of badges everyone paid so fast it made my head spin. There were absolutely no issues at all. So, if you send an email order, your badge(s) will be reserved for 30 at least days with our without payment. I will ship out badges that have been paid for and hold pending payment those that have not.

Payment details: $25us per badge, shipping included

Option 1 - Paypal to: jhjacobs(at)ix.netcom.com

Option 2 - Check to: John Jacobs

I am presently upside down in this venture about $2000us. After all is said and done I will post a final accounting (just like last time). Any surplus will be applied to a good (or close approximation of good) Coupe / BMW / Automotive cause -- or maybe just a new starter for my coupe. :-? I kind of hope that I wind up with some spare badges so I can carry them to shows and sell them for outrageous prices.

If you have any questions, concerns, or comments I can be reached by phone at: +1 (three zero one) 917 5333.

My thanks to everyone for the kind words and understanding about what it takes to pull something like this off. I truly hope no one is disappointed. If there are any issues in shipping, quality, satisfaction etc., I will do everything I can to make it right and I will gladly refund payments if you aren't happy. This is not a for-profit activity on my part; I am doing this for the pleasure of the community. This is with out a doubt the best collection of enthusiasts on the web. My hat's off to all of you!

My last thought - I hope that we can start a badge photo contest. I never get tired of seeing them. :-D

Payment for two sent via PayPal a few minutes ago.

(1) White
(1) Golf

You're a good man for fronting the $2k and making the effort for all of us!

I have two excellent examples from the first run so don't need more but wanted to thank you for the effort anyway. I know just how much time something like this takes!!
Well Done!
Stan

One white please, PayPal following immediately after I type this.

thanks for taking on the effort,

sincerely thank you

John Thanks for all the hard work on the badges. One white and one inka for me. I can't wait to see which goes better with Sahara. PM sent. Regards Jon

John, I would like to reserve an Inka one for me. If its already sold out, white will also
be OK, and thanks for the great effort, and great service. I don't know from paypal, so
I will mail you a check tomorrow to your home.
all the best,

Status update: I have responded to everyone's order payments received so far (midnight PST - Friday 9/11). If you don't have a confirming note from me and you think you ordered / Paypal'd then I recommend a PM to make sure.

We are moving along at a pace similar to last time. The tally so far is:

38 - TOTAL
16 - White
11 - Inka
11 - Golf

I have gone back to the vendor to change the order to 50 White, 25 Inka, and 25 Golf. So far I have not confirmed the change to the order so, if you want Golf, you may be disappointed. However, the vendor is flexible and patient based on my first experience so I think we'll be OK. Since we have sold 40% within 24 hours I am thinking I may need to increase the order by another 25 badges or so....

So, what is it with Golf? I was not very serious about this color but I wanted to honor Gunter's efforts so I figured I'd make a few on a lark. Go figure, they turned out to be popular!

You guys are great - I really appreciate the prompt payments. I'm not hurting for cash but at the same time, I don't really want Mrs. JJ to clue into what I am doing either...

John,
I am a recent arrival from the CS Registry. I feel your pain. I am the one who took on a repro of the old CS Badge year or so ago. The response from the CS people was heartwarming. I broke even after a small!! donation to the Registry Curmudgeon. (Really, in spite of some issues and ill feelings, Art is a treasure)

One of the members sent me lots of boxes used to ship video cassette tapes. They were perfect for shipping the badges. I don't know how many are left but you are welcome to them all. I will ship them seperately from my check for a White badge. It will go on the opposited grille of the CS badge.

I don't always read threads so you can post here and send me an email [email protected]

And yes, if you have any left overs you can make a killing at car shows. I got into it because I got tired of being outbid on ebay when prices went over a hundred bucks.

Yikes! :-D After 48 hours we have sold 69 badges (including those who requested during early interest process). The official tally is:

TOTAL -- 69 of 100
WHITE -- 33 of 50
INKA -- 23 of 25
GOLF -- 13 of 25

On Monday I will contact the vendor and order 35 more badges increasing availability to: 70 White, 40 Inka, and 25 Golf. I actually think the pace of orders is even higher than last time. On the last order I actually ran out within about 4 days and it was not fun to tell members that they were all gone; this time I don't want to let the same thing happen. I appreciate all the kind words that are coming in. This type of activity is quite rewarding. However, not in a million years would I do this with any other group, especially for the jerks on Lotustalk.:evil:

I am currently travelling. When I get home I may look into purchasing a large bag of stainless screws and locking nuts to ship with the badges. Last time I built some home-made load spreading brackets for those who had difficulty with mounting the badges. While I am not volunteering to do this for everyone, I am willing to help on a case by case basis.

Status Update:

1. I still owe a number of you confirmations on your orders. I am travelling and not feeling well so I have not taken the time to catalog orders for the last two days. I should get to it this evening.

2. I increased the order with the vendor to: 70 White, 40 Inka, and 25 Golf. We have already hit about 80 pieces spoken for and this time I want everyone to get their choice of color(s). If there are extras left over I am sure they will find homes over time.

badge-a-thon....

Hi John,
I'm sorry, there is little worse than riding or driving the porcelain bus while over there.
It's awfully gracious of you to take us all onto your back with this endeavor... This time, I think I'd like an Inka. 2nd choice is Golf. Will send a check as soon as I'm sure that you have pulled through. Sorry...When you feel like death eating an onion sandwich, the last thing you want to hear is my BS....Take care, and give me buzz when you get back, and thanks. Dave V. in NC
