h4 upgrade question

in midst of wiring clean-up and upgrade and looking to upgrade to H4's.

Looking to go with a h4 hi-lo set up and will install relays. Are fuses necessary in the set up and what bulbs does board think work best (55v or 60v)?

Also cleaning up wiring running behind the heater unit. Taking the grill off seems like a PITA. Any tips to do this to get at wires behind?

Yes I installed modern 20 amp fuses between the battery and the low beam and driving light relays. High beams are already fused. With relays and good wiring 55 or 60w will work no problem.
