Hi,

Wondering if the handbrake cable support in picture 1 is the same as in picture 2?
Since the support in picture 1 is no longer available from BMW until 2017 and further I would like to sandblast the old part and let it get yellow passivated. But When I look to the picture I'm not sure this is the same part?
Can I use the old part with the new cable?

Thanks.

Could someone measure the thickness of this collar? Then I can adjust my original part that I yellow passivated.

Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,

HI Jens,
I am sorry, i dont have the measurement. However i don't think it matters, as you can test fit to check if it is correct or not.

See attached pictures. The cable attaches on one side, your yellow passivated block on the other. When the yellow collar is too thick, the collar that is on the cable side can't fully enter the wheel arm. You can see in my pic, the one from the outside of the vehicle, that both collars are actually touching each other . So both or either one is ~1mm too long. On the other hand, as they are touching it means no debris can enter into the cable liner.

It will cause a 1mm 'mis-alignment' as in the first pic (my build), where you see a bit of space between the bright zinc flange, and the black wheel arm. It's being flattened by the buts.

It would still work in this condition however, so i just left it like that.
I have had almost the same struggle, see thread ( http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/threads/fixing-that-little-rustspot.18521/ ) post 8/10/12.

Thanks Erik!
Your posts have already been a great help during my restoration!
I think I will just cut the collar at the same thickness from where the thread is starting and do a test-fit.
I saw the part for sale at WN few months ago and thought "I still have time, I don't have to buy it right away" ... Guess I thought wrong :)
