I am on the fence about which wheels are best for the GRAET PUMPKIN... Vintage 1970s Hardy and Becks (3) piece Staggered (16 x 7.5 and 16 x 8.5 )that are very light and which they tell me these wheels are VERY RARE or the modern Alpinas Staggered (16 x 7 + 16 x 8)...

Opinions Please... In reality the wheels are VERY similar except the HB wheels are very light...

I will probably sell the set I do not use...

The Hardy and Becks are Staggered!

Upon careful inspection it appears that the Hardy and Becks are in fact STAGGERED being 7.5 x16 front and with 8.5 x 16 Rears...

Surprisingly they have NO stamped sizes or offset anywhere on the wheels that I have seen...

Hardy and Becks all day long, the stagger will fill the rear arch's up, but you need to paint the centers black to make them look good

Steve

I just today put on a set of staggered 16" Alpinas with the conventional wisdom 205/55 and 225/50 tires. I am thrilled. They look just right and handle terrific.
Go with what you like the best.

but if conflicted, stay with the Alpina's

Love H&B. These guys were the name in domestic BMW mods in the 70s / 80s. Built my 2002 with them in the 70's and fell in love with a 2800 they had tweaked. It is why I have an E9 today.

H&B sold these wheels up until fairly recently I believe. Not sure what vintage your wheels are but I'd crack test them and if they are sound mount them!

If you go with the Alpinas let me know...I'll take the H&Bs!!!

I've contemplated this very issue myself. Dropped by H&B earlier this year and they still sell them brand new at a very tidy sum for a staggered set. They build to order with their H&B centers (cast aluminum) and spun BBS inner and outer rims. They do look better with the painted black centers though, just as with the Alpinas. The only reservation I have with the H&B rims is that the centers are slightly convexed (crown), versus the better looking concaved (shallow dish) spokes of the Alpinas. The mirror polished outer rims of the H&B are pretty striking though. Selling my pristine Alpinas ought to pay for about 2/3 of the cost for the H&B rims.

Actually, the H&B staggered 3-piece rims were more of a 1980's thing. They were mainly fitted (at a premium) to their modded 3, 5, and 6 series cars of this period, although they also look great on the CS coupes. They cost considerably more than a set of Alpinas back in the day.

This coupe with the H&B rims used to belonged to a forum member here.

i often thought i would prefer the H+B ... but i really think the alpinas look better. but i also think the decision is going to be more dependent with color. i think the H+B looks better in all silver than the alpina does. and i tend to think that less black on the colorado looks better. i also think that on a dark color car both look good. on a silver car - it needs the black definition.

my 2 cents

So after counting the votes Obama and the Alpinas have been elected

I would have thought that there would have been a lot more votes for the Hardy and Becks.... They look VERY Similar to the Alpinas and are lighter and wider...

I might try them on the GREAT PUMPKIN for a while...

the part i like about the H+B is no black centers ... which i think is a plus on the colorado car

I did some research about Hardy and Beck These Wheels are Ultra Rare!

I did some research on the net and made some calls about the Hardy and Beck wheels... The guy who sold me my CSi told me these wheels were very special and I did not pay attention.

News Flash!

Apparently the silver centered wheels are definitely from the 1970s. The outer Rims are Super Strong and Ultra Light from the BBS racing dept.

This set I discovered while having a tire mounted has 8.5 inch wide rears and 7.5 inch wide fronts... This is an ultra rare setup specifically for the E9...

I definitely am going to try them on the Great Pumpkin...

Once they are mounted...

Be careful not to drive off the fiscal cliff!
Sell the H&Bs and come out cash neutral on the pumpkin!

I installed the Hardy & Becks and they look fantastic on the GREAT PUMPKIN!..

After I learned about how rare the H&Bs were I decided that they are Wider, Lighter and have much better tires (Contis vs Firestones) and I also like the Polished Rims so I installed them on the GREAT PUMPKIN to see how they would look...

I think they look AMAZING!

Scott is right... The silver centers look much better on Colorado cars...

The first photo is with the H&Bs and the second is the Alpinas...

OPINIONS?

Was that a Full on 4 NASCAR tire change or just 2? :) I think the centers would look better black.

naah ... look at the shadow on the pix w/ alpinas ... to slow for nascrap (err ... nascar). i like the H+B on the car. the alpinas look good too. both look good Jeff.

so when you gonna get those amber front sidemarkers off of that car? they are screaming - remove me.

Side Markers EXCLUUUSE ME? Correct me but I think I see Side Markers on your car?

Scott,

Correct me if I am mistaken but in that very small photo I am certain I see Side Markers... People with Side Markers on their coupes should not pick on the mentally handicapped or make fun of the less fortunate:lol::lol:...

You know what they say about people in Glass Houses.... On the other hand I live in a Glass House and we do not throw stones... Just an occasional Javelin!

Also I cannot hear the Screaming Side Markers over the nagging and other loud noises coming from the wife....

OH SH!T!...

Dear It was just a joke... I was just goofing with the guys... Noooo dear you never nag! OK OK I will finish cleaning the floor and ironing your blouses...
