Headers????

iC6ZMIO.jpg

I have a set of Stahl headers ( left ) and a set of mystery headers ( right ) that I found at Pick-n-Pull.

those are some nice looking headers, Mike do you want to sell one of those sets
One of them is going in my Bav, and I'm very seriously considering putting an M30/5-spd in my 67 Nova wagon, so I'm holding out hope that the other set will fit in there.

How about these? Annyone any idea what they are, based on just this picture?
they are supposedly fitting M30.
Note the small towers with thread, i think they are to locate heat shields?

Here are my headers of unknown Mfg.

After blasting and a ceramic coating inside and out

These wre very easy to remove. No clearance issues and they line up perfectly with the stock exhaust. If anyone has a hunch who made them, I'd be very interested to hear.
My 1.5 inch Stahl's are brand new and still wrapped up

Nicad, I like your simple direct design. Looks easy to copy! I have done lots of headers from scratch, These are a snap!Would you consider alowing me make a copy? To see my work my web page is" Randy Grubb .com"

Possible group buy?

FWIW, had my Stahls ceramic coated by Jet-Hot 10 years ago now and they still look good.

Highly recommend the process.

Not really feeling like shipping these and then having Canada Customs charge me taxes on their return. I can do any measurements you want, but imagine that a 3D measurement is difficult. Seems to me there are now scanners that can do all this digitally.

before i went thru any scanning or doing inquiries about making them ... i would want to see some test performance data vs. stock manifolds / downpipes and other popular header types

As pretty as those are, they are not long tube headers. Stahl and Bav auto are known for long tube headers. Stahls came in 1 3/8", 1.5" and 1 5/8" primaries. the consensus I have learned is 1 3/8 for a stock motor maybe,. Attached is a picture of a set of long tubes in 1 3/8" size. I may just be able to get talked out of. I am not sure of the manufacturer but for sure not Chinese

I'm super excited about my Stahl headers but I don't consider them superior to short tubes. My car will be geared to hang out in the upper RPM's while sucking air through DCOE's. Long tubes are for that setup while sacrificing low end power. Alpina ran and sold short tube headers, not for lack of design or fabrication ability. They seem to know what they are doing, and many of the M30 short tube manufacturers borrow Alpina's sexy 'basket of snakes' design.

My Oz built headers.
Also - my fancy SFDon plenum brackets.
Today made a heat shield for the RHD brake master and hoses. Pretty crowded in there now.

having had a long discussion with Jere Stahl about headers before he closed the business ... my lack of in depth knowledge on the subject became quite apparent ... Jere's knowledge was deep. he tested his m30 headers on many engine builds. his advice was that the 1 3/8" would easily and efficiently run up 240 / 250 hp builds ... with up to 10:1 compression and a reasonable cam. his further comment was that you needed a real fire-breather to make use of 1.5" primary tube. he showed me a bunch of calculations that verified this. a stahl 1.625" header - race only. some of this was documented in forum discussions at the time of the stahl group buy (before stahl closed). if you look at korman's website - their test data + engine builds support this.

Sorry for OT, but i wonder if it is reasonable to upgrade headers in stock not modified engine with just modified rest of exhaust?
I am now on the stage of buying new stainless exhaust set, so am considering also headers upgrade. But am not sure if upgraded headers vs stock will give my m30b30 d-jet any benefits?
Much appreciate any input.
