I board a plane in a few hours that will take me to Copenhagen.
Funerals suck. Especially when they are for someone so young who left us way before their time.

On to the rest of this....

I will be in Denmark just short of a week (in the Aarhus area). Flights and schedules arranged with hours of traveling don't leave many options for itineraries that fit better what I wanted, so... it is what it is.

I won't be back to Copenhagen till I fly back on the 19th as I am staying in the area of where my family is. That being said - I will be there a bit longer than I 'need to be' - not that I have the total ability to play tourist, but...
For the central/northern part of Jutland... anybody have thoughts on things that could interesting to see or do?
I have literally had time to only book flights, car, hotel and the like. No other planning time at all. So - just thought I'd see if anyone here has some suggestions.

Thanks for any ideas...

Oh - my rental is 'supposed to be' a BMW 2 series. I'll probably end up with a Yugo. LOL.. All I do know is that I will be paying for some VERY expensive fuel. Maybe it's a diesel :)

Thanks again

Hi everyone -
I'm in Denmark now. Trip is going fine (as much as can be expected for a funeral - I guess).

My rental turned out to be a BMW, just not a 2 series - I have an X1 sDrive 18i
Lets just say I won't be running down to the dealer to get one when I return.
It's an ok rental car - but the inability to turn off (and stay off) the electronic nannies is frustrating.
The driving dynamics are odd - When moving around at low speed (say repositioning for parking), there is an initial sluggishness for the car to actually move - unless you give it a bit of throttle. Then it kind of lurches instead of slowly moving. Almost like the brakes hang up for a second....
Also - the seats are not for me - I have only driven 400km so far, and will see about adjusting them again today to see if I can get it more for my taste.
I did fill up and (measured) 34mpg so far. That was 85% freeway driving from the airport to up near Aarhus where I am staying. Thought it would be better. It's a 3 cylinder after all. LOL
My sister in law also has a black rental X1. We're twins - LOL

A couple of thoughts -
It is so nice to have an environment where driving is taken seriously. No funny business... Everyone works together to get through obstacles (road works, city building construction, small cars with smaller roads...) All that kind of stuff (and in the 500+ KM's I've driven - I can not recall seeing one piece of garbage anywhere. Truly refreshing.

Funeral is tomorrow (Tues). I presume the family will take that day and then Weds and on will be for me (but if there are family things going on after - totally fine... Just not expecting anything).

As such - will probably have two days to go exploring.... Stay tuned....

I'd guess that's a dual clutch effect. My M4 annoys the cr*p out of me for the same reason. After a stop, or shifting reverse-to-first, or when slowing down to a crawl, the DCT fully opens the clutch to prevent overheating and wear. When you get on the throttle, the computer takes a moment to recognize the input, close the clutch, and select the right gear. Always seems worse when the drivetrain is cold. Some claim that switching to sport mode reduces the effect.

My wife and I recently rented a BMW 330i in Los Angeles and drove it back home to Philadelphia stopping along the way to do some hiking and sightseeing.

I too found the driving dynamics of the modern BMW to be very frustrating. acceleration was no linear and the braking was jerky. It was not an enjoyable experience. I am not in the market for a new car and if I were I would not buy the 3 series.

I am back...
Flights, car and hotels were fine. I only make note of that as I arranged everything in about an hour a couple of days before I left. For me (for international travel) - that is lightning fast. I guess I cashed in all my skills from when I had to travel for work... Except no expense account this time - LOL.

The rental car - as I noted above - not my favorite. But it worked fine.
Having to reset all the electronic nannies EVERY time I started the car (lane departure, start/stop, speed limit) was frustrating....
Fuel economy... Not as good as I expected - and I drove reasonably mellow... A bit under 40mpg.
The seat was not very good for my back. The seats in the E23 and E38 are MUCH better. I don't count the seats in the E9 or 2002 (they aren't good either but that's ok)
Android Auto worked fine. I am getting used to how to work that... Thing I noticed is that there were 20+ phones still loaded in the system when I got the car. I deleted them all as well as mine when I turned the car in.
The car had a buzzy motor (and seemingly non-linear throttle response) - I guess it was ok for a "3" cylinder motor - but... oh well...

For the things I did - As my wife was not on the trip with me, after the funeral, I took the opportunity to do things I knew she would not enjoy (but that I would).
(See links in each of the titles)

DenmarkFlyMueseum
This is a small aviation museum in the middle of the west coast of Jutland. A small place - but worth going to if you are in the area.

CC Cars
This is a car dealer specializing in mid-timer (as its called) classic cars. Had a good visit with one of the fellas there... They don't do much business with the USA but do with Germany... some nice cars... I just happened to see it on the way to the funeral and went back later to see (you can see their showroom from the road)

Egeskov Classics Museum
It is set in a large castle. The day I went - they had a music festival going on (or something) and traffic was a mess (police controlled) and I couldn't figure out how to get there without going to that festival.... so I passed. Will see about it the next time I am in Denmark. Looks to be interesting...

And then there was this place....

Classic Car House.....
WOW... Really something. When I looked this place up online - it looked impressive. But then I saw that they have a collection from BMW (the art cars). That was a good omen (but was just the tip of things to come).
I arrived about 3pm on Thursday expecting to have a look around for about an hour then head off to the hotel to have dinner and get ready for my flight back home.
Nope... did not happened that way at all.
When I got there, the fella at the entrance told me that there was an 'open house' that day (the third Thursday of the month) where anyone can come (like a cars and coffee) and it was 'American Car Day' - so there was a car show inside the car show. I ended up staying till about 8pm. Had bratwurst at their food truck and walked around the cars and visiting with LOTS of people there all afternoon. Freaking awesome afternoon. This place is much more than I thought...

This place is a 1) Classic and luxury car dealer 2) Repair shop 3) Museum 4) Storage garage for 'customers' 5) Social clubhouse 6) Restaurant....
This last one - I will go back nex time I am in Copenhagen....
Thier facilities left me speechless...

One funny story -
If you look at the last picture, there is a red Camaro convertible. It was one of the customer cars in storage. I was going by it when the owner/driver came in to get the car ready for the 'car show' (as she called it). A lady was in charge here... the fella was along for the ride. I visited with the husband as his wife popped the hood and checked the oil and messed around with things. I could tell she was in a hurry and didn't really know about the car (too much). She closed the hood and got in the car to start it. There were no signs of life (no solenoid clicks or anything). She got out and messed around more with the battery..... and tried again. Still nothing... This time I could see she was messing around with a battery disconnect that had been installed for her. The kind with the green knob. I've had them on several cars over the years. Well - I could see she was not doing it right (she did not tighten it down to make the battery connection). So - do I say something or....??? I let her know I have had those things and she needed to do such and such. But - she was going a million miles an hour and didn't really listen. So - when she got in the car to try again - I walked over to the battery and tightened the knob and asked her to try again. It started right up. She laughed that she shoudl have paid more attention... Her husband smiled at me as I have a feeling this is SOP for her... The car was her fathers and she inherited it a few years ago. It is in really nice shape.
Later in the show, I saw her talking to someone (speaking in Danish)... When I passed by she stops and starts in English 'This is the fella that saved me!!! Such an angel!' to her friend - We had a short visit and it was about time to leave. After seeing her have problems earlier, I let her (and her husband) know how to disconnect the battery for when she parks it - We never did get to that part earlier as she was on a mission and I did not want to get in her way once the car was running... LOL

:)

See pics....

Thanks for sharing. Only about half an hour out of the city, but would likely never know of Classic Car House without the post here. Pretty cool.
