headlight assembly removal

G'day all,

Recently brought the car home and garagaed it, the fun stuff is off to a slow start, having taken most of the trim off etc but what i am finding difficult is the removal of the actual headlamp assembly and the front chrome strip on the nose of the car. It appears it is bolted on to the body with nuts behind them right into the radiator assembly area. Is there a way of reaching in and removing these nuts?? Also the headlight assembly seems to bolted into place but allows no access to reach in for nut removal? Could someone please assist with info as to the removal of such parts. Thanks.

car is a BMW 2000cs
 
The trim is held on by "T"-bolts with nuts that require an 8mm (I think) socket. I use a 1/4" drive socket with a long (12" or more) extension. Spray the nuts with a good penetrating oil before (preferably overnight or more). Expect to break some of the bolts - they are all rusty.

If your car has covers above the headlights you have to remove those for access to the 4 bolts for the headlights.

I think you also have to remove the turnsignals too. It has been a while since I have done this.

My car does not have the enclosed headlight system but rater the US style lights. All the trim has been taken off, the 2 large bolts in the engine bay holding the headlight assembly together have been removed, but what i can see is that on the indicator side on both lights is another smaller bracket, i cannot find the bolts that hold those in place, there is no access to this part at all, i guess i use a dremel and if i can reach in i'll just cut the bolts and replace with new later on.

Having taken the hood off completely i can now see all the nuts that holds the chrome trim at the front in place, also located the ones inside the wheel arches etc for side trim removal. Thanks again for the info :)
