Headlight Cover Screws

I think this part would be terribly simple to print. Part scanning is expensive though. You don't have to replicate the whole part. Use a standard metric hex head screw and make the plastic thumb wheel snap onto the hex head. I'll look into it if nobody wants to. We have a Seattle based modeler on this forum that has the necessary skills, but I'm not sure how busy he is.

I bought brand new white ones a little over a year ago or so. I don't really remember where I got them from but I believe I had ordered them from Tomkinsonbmw. Hard to tell.
I kept all my receipts on all the parts purchased but unfortunately that folder is on a boat together with my coupe, crossing the atlantic, heading towards Germany. ETA is end of November, so no quick way of checking for me I'm afraid :-?

I think they are threaded a little different. I recently bought a set of the black replacement screws and they would not screw right n.

I have both and can check when I get to the shop tonight to see if I have the same problem.

His ad says he doesn't want to ship to America. If I read it right. His are NOS, no telling how many he has.

I checked the holes in my car and a M6 x1mm bolt fit well enough. A bit tight because of paint and rust, but I believe that is the correct size.

Sure, the knob could be 3D printed, but durability and surface finish as well as color and translucency are all questions to be answered. I plan to have some made that will pass serious inspection next to the real thing. I have a friend who will whip out a Solid Works CAD file as soon as I get him some dimensions.

At the bottom of the auction he says he ships internationally. His email address is [email protected] and he speaks English.

He is also a manager of the German e9 club www.bmw-coupeclub.de and also included a few items from them along with the parts I bought. He'll send you a catelogue of repro stuff he has.

Screw defined

I've gotten a CAD drawing of the headlight cover knob made. Now to work out the details of the production. Looks like I'll be making a mold and injection molding them myself. I believe I have a source for the correct screws to use.
