On the back of the headliner, does the vinyl wrap around the back of the board or does it glue to the metal lip, like on the pillars?

Additionally, I've looked at many photos and cannot resolve whether or not I should run the windlace beyond the pinchwelt and up beyond the parcel shelf in the front. When looking at most pictures, the weatherstrip is on, so its hard to see the pinchwelt as it relates to the windlace.

Thank you in advance. I've said finally before but maybe its for real this time? Take care.

George, thanks for your call and clarification. Maybe I stated my question poorly and should have asked anyone of the 50+ people who opened the post to simply look at the back of their coupes, take a picture of the top of the rear glass, and post it.

Chuck, thanks for the offer on the shop manual and to bring your car by. It will come in handy for the rear bumper measurement (another one of those questions that was too simple for a response).

VRANED, thanks for leaving up your files. The visual was helpful in figuring out my windlace question.

OK,OK, I'm one of the people who looked...should have responded...too many Weyerbacher beers on a 96 degree day. I have no idea what a windlace is or a pinchwelt. Please help me understand.
Anyway, I am in the process of rehabbing my headliner and have removed it from my 74 with a sunroof. It most definitely was glued to the metal lip on the top perimeter of the rear windshield opening. It was not glued to the edge of the board. BTW, what kind of glue are you using to re-install? 3M 77? 80? Is glue available in a can you can brush on? Good luck.

I find the 3M 77 to be strong enough to tack carpeting and not tear it up, that's about it. I recently learned of the 80, which is supposed to be used for vinyl, rubber, and headliners. I've never used it. I used the 3M 90 to do the headliner in my 2002. Four years later, its holding without issue.

I will be using a combination of the 3M 90 on pillars and a brush applied glue supplied by my upholsterer.

Pinchwelt is the rubber textured "c" clamp measuring 1/2" in width that goes around the door (black) and is found in white in the trunk. Windlace is the material that goes between the chrome strip under your dash, by the kick panel and by the door jamp. It has a rubber tube inside the vinyl and you recall what it is when you leave it off and end up wondering why there is a gap between your door panel and the rear quarter and/or kick.

Both the glue and pinchwelt, which many believe are hard to find or too expensive through the dealership are available here: www.rochfordsupply.com. I find the 3M glue to be pricey as I get it for less at the local Home Depot w/o shipping expenses. However, the pinchwelt is reasonably priced and a very, very good quality.

I use 3M super 90 for non-structural stuff, such as wide areas of vinyl and felt backer to cardboard. For headliner edges and heavy upholstery, where strength is key, 3M 1357 is outstanding. It can be applied by brush or gun. You can get it from Aircraft Spruce http://www.aircraftspruce.com. For continued good health ample ventilation is especially important with 1357.

I don't have any pictures of the install but you can pm with any questions. I've completed both a sunroof and a non sunroof car; the main difference were the bows. Pay attention to the "a" and "c" pillars, ie, how far the vinyl comes down from the pillar and how it relates to the windlace, upper dash section and finishing trim (wraps around roof/door). I'm certain others will offer insight for anything posted as well.

Please look at vraned's page for pics: http://vranedom.com/headliner/headliner.html
He took wonderfully detailed photos. Good luck.
