Heater Hose Diagram

That’s the one. The u shaped e28 hose puts the body close to an unused captive nut on the scuttle panel. The hose from the back of the head needs to be extended to reach. I used an emergency flasher switch with a purple lens to control it.

The part no. is 64111373191. On closer examination, the photo Fritzie posted is another version, but should also work. The hose in my picture has the BMW logo printed on it and no. 1384763Phx8161 stamped into it. The valve is listed for left and right hand drive e28's , but cant find that hose in the parts diagram. Maybe a rhd thing? There is also a bracket the valve mounts to which is needed. I can post switch wiring details if you like, just have to cast my mind back. It needs a jumper from power input to one of a pair of contacts that are bridged when the switch is in the off position, the other being connected to the pos terminal of the valve, earth to the chassis.

Ratio and slip percentage are stamped on the flat part under the filler plug. you may have to clean it off with a wire brush to see the stampings. The numbers on top are casting numbers I think. It looks like it has been using the expansion tank or plumbed to an oil cooler maybe.

Hello, and thank you for your explanation, it is on my car, I will take a picture and posted for you to see, it is clean and painted I hope paint didn't cover the stamp, it is a good day Saturday I can jack the car up and take a picture. talk to you soon.
 
Coolant Flow Path Sequence (this is the best simple way to describe the coolant flow I have found for anyone interested)
    • Water Pump: Sends pressurized fluid directly into the front of the engine block.
    • Engine Block: Coolant flows from the front toward the rear of the block, cooling the cylinders.
    • Cylinder Head: Fluid moves up into the head and travels backward to forward (rear to front).
    • Thermostat & Housing: Hot coolant reaches the thermostat housing at the front; if closed, it recirculates back to the pump; if open, it routes through the radiator.

    • Radiator & Expansion Tank: Coolant sheds heat through the radiator core before returning to the water pump inlet, while the expansion tank manages overflow. (on a CS the expansion tank is connected by a 1" ID hose to a coolant port on the rear intake manifold, and a small hose from the top of the radiator to the top of the expansion tank to eliminate air from the flow circuit)
    • Heater Core: A separate feed diverts hot coolant to the cabin heater core (comes from the back of the head, feeds the heater, return line feeds a port on the rear intake manifold)
  • Heater bypass implications
  • A heater "shut off" valve (in-line configuration, above) eliminates flow through the intake manifolds when off
  • A heater "bypass" valve ("H" or "Y" with a "T" configuration) shuts off the flow through the heater core but still allows flow through the intake manifold (Thread: https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/diy-heater-bypass-valve.10824/post-404013)
