heater hose direction

Trying to replace the in/out water hoses to my heater. Been off for 2 years in my "heater delete" experiment) I thought I had photos of "before" but seem to have every other angle but what I need. Have looked at blue book and it looks like either hose can connect to back of cylinder head according to photos page 64-21/1. So, I wonder if it really matters? Can some of you tell me what your top hose connects to? (BTW, I have a '72 carbed car). Thanks, Mike

Perhaps I can clarify, of the 2 heater pipes coming through the firewall, where does the hose attached to the top pipe, go? In my case I forget if it goes to the back of the cylinder head, or under my carb manifold. Anyone?

top goes to carbs manifold, bottom goes to cyl head,

IMHO the curve of the hoses says it very clearly

Thank you Steve and deQuincy. This is exactly what I have come across in manuals and photos of engine bays. I wonder if it even matters. Real OEM shows part numbers but not where each pipe attaches after it leaves heater outlet or inlet. It will be interesting to hear from others as well. Thanks. Mike

This is a great photo deQuincey. Thank you for posting. And Markos, that's amazing, not much left on that engine, but the key hose in question. Thanks. I am going with bottom hose to cylinder head! Excellent help as usual.

Yes lower hose from core to cylinder head. Upper to manifold.

you do realize that the return hose is different for CSi and CS

heater hose inlet - 64211354603 (same both models)

heater hose return (carbs) - 64211361180 ... this is a double bend hose with both ends parallel

heater hose return (injection) - 64211354041 ... this is a single bend L shaped hose

I’m well aware but it is good that you shared . The CSI and the later fuel injected cars have a metal coolant pipe
that spans the length of the block:

Sure do. I might add that if you act now, BavAuto has the "injection" ...041 hose on SALE for $8.

i've got the 041 and the 180 hose so i can figure out which will work better for my b34 engine ... i presume that the 041 hose will be what i need.
