what an amazing group effort. (No surprise, so much help here) But I look at first post: Today @ 9:39 AM, by 12:35 PM another member confirms Coupe safely in the hands of approved saviour. Nice!
Late follow-up to the group and those who posted: Shortly after posting this morning I also searched the internet for independent BMW repair shops and ended up at an old post from 2015 on this forum that also recommended Peter's Hobby Shop. Called, spoke to Peter who (of course) said "bring it on in." The AAA arrived and was able to jump start it, confirming a bad battery. So, off to Peter's.
In the meantime, I get the post from lafngrvy, above, confirming that Peter's the man, for which I thanked him by PM.
Called Peter on the way there to report that the car was running and I just needed a battery. He placed the order for the battery then, without asking for a credit card, and he then sent one of his guys to pick it up from the vendor. Once I got to his shop, I was in and out in under an hour for the six-hour drive that lay ahead. (Driving the coupe back to LA from the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma where it's been for the last six months. Am now overnighting at the halfway point.)
Bottom line: what a great resource this group is, and if you're in the Portland area and need service, I can't recommend Peter's Hobby Shop enough.
