When I bought my '74 coupe in May, it had aftermarket seats, and I want OE seats. I've purchased one full set of OE '74 seats (in leather that needs some TLC and some repair). There are also some issues regarding the chrome trim parts on the seat hinges. I also bought a set of earlier model year seats in blue velour with some wear on the outer velour pieces but good chrome on the seat hinges. as well as good 'ribbed velour' sections.
I want to transfer all the chrome trim/hinge mechanism from the blue velour seats to the frame of the '74 leather seats (which eventually I'll install).

I have the seat bottoms and backrests separated from both Drivers side seats, as well as the chrome trim for the backrest (as well as the chrome holding the backrest back panel on, and the back side panels removed).

NOW - my problem. I want to remove the hinged pieces on both the inner and outer sides of both seat bottoms. I can not find a way to remove these, and the chrome covers I want to use are attached to the hinges. I'm SERIOUSLY looking for guidance from anyone and everyone on how this can be done.

THANKS for all the help in the past 2 months, and I can guarantee this won't be the last plea from this old man!

Charlie,

I'm past anything shown in that link. Have the seat backs removed from the seat bottoms. It's the hinges that are attached to the seat bottoms that are the problem (they latch to the seat adjusting frame, and also have the manual recline knob on the outer side).

Turn the seat bottom upside down. You'll see the end of a shaft poking from the outside-in held in by a small snap ring and probably some rust. There is a small snap ring holding the adjuster knob in the shaft.Remove the ring and the knob, with shaft attached, should pull out.Remove the snap ring on the shaft itself and try to rotate the whole chrome piece, like turning a knob,to loosen it up.I had to use a wooden dowel and small hammer to persuade the shaft to leave the tube in the seat frame itself. But rotating the chrome and slightly pulling on it at the same time might work for you.You should end up with the pieces as shown in the pictures, altho they are of the side without the adjuster knob.

PaulinPa,

EXACTLY what I was looking for. I'd done a search on the web site and came up with NOTHING like this description and pictures. This will be not only helpful for me, but for anyone else who is looking to completely dismantle and re-assemble the seats.

THANK YOU very much.
