HELP! What colour is the CS Coupe in the BMW Museum, Munich?

AWESOME - Thanks!

Sorry to keep on, but the turquoise-ey blue colour of this car looks nothing like the green colour my car has come out at, even allowing for lighting! I suppose there's no chance of shade variations of Turkis between the years? I believe the bodyshop used the shade from 1973.

Just need to understand what has happened here and why it hasn't turned out as expected as obviously I know have to spend more money than anticipated if I want to change it. Plus hopefully others thinking about painting their cars this sort of colour will benefit.

Do you have pictures of your car?

What was the car primed in? White, grey, and black primers can all effect the final colour. I'd prime in white for a colour like turkis.

Hi,

It was primed in a mid grey - I've decided to keep it the way it is after getting them to take more pictures. I think maybe MichaelP was onto something in that when they took pics of the car as soon as it was sprayed it came out pretty dark green but seems to have mellowed slightly, as it now looks properly turquoise like the beautiful UK car on this thread - Who's is it by the way?

Pics of mine going up as soon as! How do you post images on here?

Thanks to everyone who added their thoughts to this thread. Case closed!

David.

Turkis

That latest pic of the Turkis car looks like Turkis on my computer. It is defintely more on the green side as opposed to blue which is correct, hence Turquoise. Looks beautiful too.

Not sure if these are of any use, but some old pics of my car, taken with different cameras at different times.

Even in the flesh I think the car sometimes is green, other times more blue. I'm always happy with the colour though.

The last guy who did some work on it reckoned this colour required two layers of different hues to achieve this effect - any comments on that ?

I would love to get a small quantity for touching up small areas.

I don't think there were multilayers unless you are describing a clear coat too. In the back of my mind I remember hearing a paint man who allegedly repaired marine/shipping related damage and he claimed that clear coats were not used on all metallics then. I really don't recall but the shiny pics sure look like they did. As you know, the downside of metallics is the inability to match the original paint. I think much had to do with the size and shape of the metal particulates in any given batch. Although I was looking for another color, I am certain I saw cans of touch-up spray paint in this color. This was years ago in Germany. I have no way of knowing how it looked when applied or if it required a clear coat follow-up.

Re your vinyl top. I know these were optional in the UK. If you know, were they factory installed or a dealer add-on?

Guess I should have reduced those images.

The guy I spoke to was talking about two different layers of colour, he had stripped the paint back in one area, so I figured he'd discovered this. That's not to say it's the original paint of course, as it did have restoration work in the past.

The vinyl was added by the dealers apparently.

Was the vinyl roof a Europe or UK only thing, I have never seen one in the U.S.?
