Very nice George! great set of invoices, and a nice job well done. After you know more on the cam, can we talk some more?
Thank you!

Best regards,

(1) the invoices remind me of how relatively reasonable VSR1 is. In the gang I race with, $16k to $20k is typical for a 4-cyl race motor (lotus twin cam) with carbs but no exhaust. The 16v Fords (YB, etc) are $15k to $30k and they are still 4-cyl.

(2) I personally think your price is already fair, but you need to confirm what is inside the motor and what it was designed/setup to do. Without this into it’s hard for people to know if the motor is what they want or not. For example: if the motor is setup with a full or 3/4 race Schrick cam that makes power only above 4500 rpm then buyers know it’ll be a PITA on the street, but great as a track day toy.

I’ll go further and say ideally …. You would have a dyno sheet for this motor that shows torque/HP and AFR. I guess it might cost $1000 to get that data, less if the shop has dyno’d M30’s before

LOTUS - (L)ots (O)f (T)rouble (U)sually (S)erious
agree on the high overlap cam - i drove a 2002 with a 316 schrick cam and twin 45dcoes ... didn't idle for crap, but above 4500 rpm it just took off.

^^^^^^ Fully agree.
Otherwise, it is a shot in the dark.

If it's been sitting for that long, has anyone sprayed some fogging oil in the cylinders and given it a manual spin? I'd hate to have the rings rusted to the bores.

Have not heard from you George. So what are you doing?
We need to know :)

Best,
Alberto

Hi guys,
I have someone interested in my entire project car...engine, gearbox, and the Series 1 E24 shell I briefly mentioned. Once I get a deposit, I'll list everything as sold and let you all know.
Wish me luck guys. If you've been following my comments, you'll know that I've been forced to sell my M635 and this project car because a degenerative ankle injury has robbed me of my ability to operate a clutch. The sale of the M635 was truly heartbreaking, and this car, although not as bad, is still very depressing. Every time I go out in the garage and see the car it reminds me that I'll never be able to enjoy it. Once the car is gone, I'll be able to focus on getting a replacement. I'll keep you all posted.
