So Cathy and I are preparing to attend the Highlands Motoring Festival again this year. Its a lovely little car show that takes place this time of year in Highlands, NC, an affluent mountain town with great twisty roads, good restaurants and decent shopping. For those of you on the West Coast, it reminds me a little bit of the Carmel by the Sea concourse.

Ferrari was the featured Marque last year and a gorgeous teal green 400 SuperAmerica won best of show. https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/highlands-motoring-festival.48192/post-422917. In 2024, BMW was featured and the BMWCCCA was out in force. https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/h...tival-review-june-8-11-2023.43749/post-384726

As often happens in this part of the USA, temperatures and humidity have begun to climb, and so in planning for the trip, Cathy asked me “Does your car have air conditioning?”

My first thought: “Of course my car has air condition. It came from the factory with air conditioning. And, I’ve done the Rob Seigel heater core bypass, upgraded by compressor to a modern efficient Sanden compressor, installed a larger condensor and replaced the factory fan with a SPAL.” Then again, I thought: Its not bad at keeping you cool, but if both you and the car have been baking in the sun, it won’t get you to where you are comfortable for quite a while. And its pretty wimpy if you happen to find yourself heading north in the late afternoon on a road with little shade. Worse yet, I have to consider my wife’s frame of reference. She drives a modern Mercedes SUV, with a much smaller greenhouse, light tan seats and a modern and very robust air conditioning system.

In the end, I went with “yes, but its 1970s air conditioning.”

Is anyone else planning to be there?

not going to make it this year, Elaine + I were in Highlands last weekend. its a wonderful place but hotel rooms are very expensive ... luckily we stayed at a friends house on top of Satulah mountain. we noticed that the bank parking lot, which was used last year for some Porsche + other cars has been demolished to build a new hotel ... not sure where they are going to park some of the cars this year.
