I searched but could find no mention of a color paint to freshen up the side and hood grills. I seem to remember someone saying Krylon flat black.

Also, what to use to clean up the old aluminum around the front grill...

My vote is semi gloss black.

On the aluminum trim, many have sanded with ultra fine and repolished.

SEM brand Trim Black, it is semi-gloss or semi-flat but sprays on nicely, dries super fast with no sags or runs. You can use it on anything under the hood requiring semi-gloss black too.

aluminum trim polishing

Stan,

The anodizing has to be stripped off; either

a. Chemical (Eastwood or such)
b. Sanding with 1000 in progressive up to 2000. ( Wet sanding, prior to polishing.

Then you have to polish with red rouge or white rouge with a buffer.

Lastly, your choice to leave and polish again in several years, or clear coat.

Polishing

I picked this up at Home Depot. (bottom) It has served very useful for polishing a lot of the smaller items (like the front grill). I have a vertical grinder (like a Dremel on steroids) that I used, but a decent hand drill may have the speed you need to get the shine.

I also used some chrome polish along with the compound provided.

It you have any Auto Body stores in your neighborhood, they can be a great resource as well. The 3M products used for automotive paint are quite extensive and user friendly. Depending in large part on the guy at the counter, they can be a quite helpful.
