How about this?

Hey, I will be leaving Monterey tomorrow. I live not too far from this, so I will try to get there and inspect, report, but I cannot buy this, just cannot, but the fever and emotion of the greatest Coupe gathering in recent memory, plus all the excitement at Laguna Seca, and, well, general ephoria of E9 anything... Well I may weaken. Will let you know. Mike

I'm quite the nubie when it comes to these cars, so take this with a grain of salt. Went to see this last week. Nice young man. Runs Partshub.ca, but restores old aircooled Porsches as well. Couldn't quite get a straight story about the car. Got it as a trade for a Porsche/bought it from a friend whose mechanic father owned it for years. Been in rainy Vancouver for a long time. Hasn't run 6 years he figured. We got it up and going, drove around the parking lot. Couldn't get the sunroof to open, or rear windows to work. Hand crank fronts were okay. Interior is okay. Drivers seat seems to be repainted perhaps. Hole in rear seat, looks like cigarette burn. Water damage to wood and headliner, but not terrible. Driver and passenger floors have rusted through. Front passenger fender and door have rusted through along the bottoms. Rubber covering inside fenders of engine bay is glued down, hard to tell what's underneath without ripping it off. Fender, chassis and steering wheel numbers match, but couldn't see the engine number through all the hoses.
I made him an offer, but he wouldn't let me take it for a PPI without a nonrefundable deposit. He said the car needs a full restoration, so what's the point. He said he has lots of buyers for it, so doesn't want to lower his price.

Sounds like a $10k USD car to me.

Why would you put rubber pieces on those inner fender tops if you weren't trying to hide what's there? Assume the worst.

Wasn't going to see this after Mauler's input, but today I was just driving, and spotted it out of the corner of my eye. I don't know, I guess my Coupe" spidey senses" have been sharpened to maximum because of my time spent in Monterey last week. Anyway, yes it surely needs everything. If someone goes to the trouble of repairing floors, then begins welding new inner and outer rockers, and so on, they will realize the engine bay, engine, upholstery etc, etc will not flatter any piecemeal renovation. So, on top of his $C20,00 add whatever value you think all that welding, painting, new trim, and so on will be and it looks like many cars that have just sat, it does not look like the numbers add up. Of course, if an individual believes by the time the restoration is done, values will have climbed significantly, and all they want to do is sell it, what was the point of that? Someone who just wants one of these as a project, and cannot find one, will pay a lot.
VIN is 2240144. has sat in the rainforest we call North Vancouver. Same owner since 1985. This fellow picked it up and is just flipping. He has lots of experience on Porsche, and is currently installing a Honda S2000 engine in a 2002 Roundie. Mike

I wonder if this guy is getting into the BMW flipping business. I much prefer the flippers who make no attempt to put lipstick on a pig. A running engine can adds thousands to the asking price but really does nothing to address any core issues.
