How do I replace the heater hoses?

I was hoping someone could help me with the procedures for replacing the heater hoses on a 72 CS (Euro) and offer some suggestions on what else I should take care of while I'm at it.

One of the hoses is leaking by the firewall. I've looked at the generous space that the designers have provided us with, and have come to the conclusion that I need to take (at least) the rear Zenith off. So it looks like I'll need to do the following
  1. disconnect fuel hoses
  2. disconnect a couple of wires
  3. disconnect the throttle linkage
  4. disconnect the coolant/heater hoses between the carbs
  5. remove the carb
Some questions
  1. How does the carb come off the intake manifold? My parts catalogue seems inconsistent. Page 13/12 show four studs that look like they go through the manifold and the lower part (carb heater?). But page 11/38 shows the lower part attached by bolts from the bottom. Do I need to take the carb off in pieces (top and bottom)? Depending on how I do this I'll need to order different sets of gaskets.
  2. Is it better to take the manifold off?
  3. I plan to replace the hoses between the carbs and do a little cleaning while things are off. At the risk of 'might as well' is there anything you would really recommend I take care off while I have it open?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Ulf

Just remove expansion tank, you shouldn’t have to remove carb but if you do just four 13mm nuts underneath. Some of the studs might unscrew but no big deal.

I was just looking at that rear hose from underneath when I had the transmission out. I suspect there is also an oring or gasket under this piece could also be leaking?

THATA A PLATE GASKET YOU COULD GET GASKET MATERIAL A SHEET
AND CUT YOU FROM THE PROFILE OF THE BASE
JUST PUT THE MATERIAL ON THE PLATE AND TAP ALL AROUNF WITH A HAMMER
TO CUT OUT THE GASKET
ALSO WHEN ITS OFF -WIRE WHEEL IT TO REMOVE ALL THE CRUD THEN
SPRAY IT WITH CLEARCOAT TO KEEP IT FROM OXIDIZING ANY MORE.
YOU CAN GET IN THERE WITH A DROPPED DOWN 10MIL 12 POINT WRENCH
YOU HAVE FAIRLY WELL DISSCRIBED WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE
I WOULD PULL PULL THE CARB AND CLEAN EVERTHING AND DO ALL THE GASKETS
THAT WAY ITS DONE FOREVER SO TH SAY

Thanks for the replies. I'll post some updates when I get to this (work has a way of interfering with my ambitions). Hopefully not just a bunch of banged up knuckles.

remove carbs, not complex and plenty of space to change all hoses
four nuts each carb, the ones from rear carb tricky due to intereference with starter motor

as to hoses, do not try to pull to remove, they will be tight glued to the tubes, and tubes might break, so cut them up longitudinally instead, you will keep the length intact to make new hoses to replace
