So, I’ve got this Michelin XAS 14” Tire on a slotted alloy. It appears to be original spare tire to the 73 E3 3.0s parts car I bought last year. It’s in great condition for it’s age. It doesn’t look like it’s ever seen the road.
I was surprised to see that it’s says “Tube Type” not Tubeless. I guess that means there’s a tube in there.
Looks like it was manufactured in 1973 in “W Germany”
I’ve got a mint XAS spare in my coupe but that one’s tubeless. Anyone see one before?

John

Define rare?

At one time tube tires were fairly common and "tubeless" less so. Tube type tires were once original equipment on E9s. See owner's manual below.

Of course, inner tubes added weight but worked well with porous or leaky rims - and remain popular as fashion accessories and floatation devices. Or, at least that's what I've heard. Some prefer tubeless.

Others may have differing opinions.

that tyre pattern is delicious, a pity there is so narrow
i saw them in a bmw baroque engel in the classic remise in dusseldorf, lovely,
but you need them in 205/70 14 to be significant in an e9
