Thanks for the measurements, I can already see the dimensions from your tape which is great.
Just wondering is that plate approximately 4” x 1/2”. Perhaps ? ( I’m just guessing)

Barry, the plate is 99mm (3.897") tall and 12mm thick, so those were good guesses.

BMW tool numbers changed in the mid-1970s, and tool 7000 became 11 0 020.
It was the factory lifting device for all M20, M21, M30, S38 and M70 6-cylinder engines.

Hi guys
Thanks for all the advice .
She’s in !!!
I had to take off the pressure plate and engine fan to get her in
So I used various hints and tips from all of ye .
I basically couldn’t have been less prepared if I tried.
I used my 4 speed box as an alignment tool for the clutch and pressure plate.
( although I had to remove it again later to allow it fit into the engine bay)
I’d normally get tooled up for a job before taking it on , but I missed that this time due to the Xmas holidays
I was able to use Jon’s dimensions to know where approximately to have the hook on the sling , Don’s advice about Not having everything bolted to the block and stevehose’s tip on angleing the block a bit .
So together we got it in .
